AMC gift card PSA (and I’m rip roaring mad)

Just in case anyone has AMC movie gift cards, you CANNOT purchase tickets online if they begin with 6006 (and 5 of the 6 cards we’ve been gifted in the past year begin with 6006). Just a PSA to check your cards before assuming you can just get tickets online to treat yourself to a movie. My DH just called the service phone # and apparently there’s a whole rigmarole we have to go through to exchange them for cards that will be acceptable online. Hot stuff.

And it gets better... each and every one of those 5 gift cards also cannot be used at the theater either (tickets or concessions) because they all first have to be verified as not being fraudulent cards. We have to send photos to AMC. At least we called and found this out BEFORE we almost paid cash for the tickets and planned to use the gift cards for concessions instead. Never giving an AMC gift card again, and when this is over and we can finally use the gift cards, I will use them up, then boycott AMC.

Yes, I found this out last year. They sell two different types of gift cards. But I’ve been able to use the cards that begin with 600 at the concession stand. I never had to verify it and it has worked every time. That’s so strange they told you that.

I even find online purchasing such a hassle with amc these days. It's crazy. Just give me a ticket.

They are the regular ones you can buy anywhere, like at cvs, etc. We’ve received a bunch over the last year (I work in the schools that I got as gifts, and my dd got as bday presents). The AMC website says you cant use the 6606 series online. These are not weird illicit gift cards, just normal ones anyone would buy....

I had a similar issue but with Visa gift cards!!! I had 3 $25 cards that I wanted to use at Target. I tried using them at self checkout and all 3 got rejected. The guy helping me made me move to a different register. It didn't work again. He called the manager over who could care less. My 3yo was melting down. At that point I was told my entire order, which was already bagged, had to be re-rung. I said fine, but you have to do it for me. Then the girl at the self checkout next to me had a problem, so the guy went over to help her. Then it happened again, all the while my 3yo was screaming and crying. I finally lost it and told the guy he had to stop helping the other woman and finish with me first.

I go home and call Visa and they said I can no longer use the Visa cards at Target because too many people used them fraudulently there so they blocked it. Great. Then they had to re-activate all my cards again. I no longer will purchase Visa cards for anyone. Too much of a headache.

We once had that happen to us too at target with a visa gift card I had gotten as a rebate for something. I thought though it was b/c our purchase also happened to contain a gift card we were buying someone as a gift. We didn’t have to reactivate the card and it worked elsewhere fine. Interesting info.

The reason the visa gift cards get declined because the cashiers don’t know how to ring them. They process as credit cards and if the amount is less than your purchase amount it won’t go through. The cashier has to specifically type in the amount of the purchase then swipe. If the cashier doesn’t do this then it swipes the card, it may or may not take the money off the card, you may have to wait a week to 10 days for the money to go back, and it’s a huge headache.

do u know where they were purchased? I have 2 or 3 left from a 3 pack we were gifted, but we had another 3 pack we were given at the same time, and those worked. well they worked on Fathom events b/c we bought tickets to see the Sandlot this summer.

that is really crappy that you cant use them as you would expect to.
