So my family and I just got back from a cruise and many photographers onboard were telling me how I should get my son into modeling (he is 4) - so Ofcourse I am tossing it around in my head
Since I do not have any clue about this Looking for details? Is this alot of work? How often is this done? Who do I speak with? Etc

Re: Kids modeling
My daughter models
1. You need headshots. Sometimes for kids that young they will take non-professional shots 2. You need an agent. You don't pick an agent, they pick you. You would submit photos to a bunch of agencies and wait for them to call. 3. If they call you go in for an interview and they will decide to sign him or not. 4. If signed they will send your kids picture out and will get auditions for you to go to. You normally get less than 24 hours and saying no if you haven't blacked out the date is frowned upon. 5. You will go to the audition (99% of the time in the city) he may need to miss school depending on the time 6. You wait to hear if you go it or not.
How often they go varies. Time of year and the needs of companies. If you are doing this because it is your dream, don't. The kid has to want to do it. If you are doing it for the money, don't. It isn't as lucrative as some may think. You have to be working consistently or on big projects to make big money. Being photogenic and cute is only half the battle. They look for personality, temperament and how well they interact with strangers since you won't be the one instructing them on set. I honestly don't encourage it for people I know. Doing it for 2 years now with my daughter I can tell you it is exhausting. My daughter really wants to do it which is why I encourage it. The day she wants to quit we are out!
I will say it is so fun to see their work. A commercial on TV. Things printed in a magazine. We just came back from a shoot in Paris which was amazing.
There is also the hard side of it. She auditioned for a movie not too long ago. Had she gotten it we would have lived in Vancouver for 3 months. I have a full-time job and 2 other kids. My husband and I didn't know how we would have made it work

Kids modeling
Do you work? If so it’s almost impossible. My son was picked up by Generation. She only handles kids. It’s a full time job and not much money. You have to take them on go sees and that’s all on your dime then for print you don’t get paid a ton and kids can only work a few hrs due to child labor laws.

Re: Kids modeling
It can be very demanding, so if you work it’s so hard. You get such a short notice for auditions and they mostly in the city or Brooklyn. It’s hard because I work in the city and he is in school in NJ. I had to put it on hold for 2 yrs.
I never did professional headshots when he was that little, just used my camera on a plain background. At 7 I got a photographer but it shouldn’t cost a lot because kids don’t need photo shop or retouching. You also don’t have to pay an agent upfront. Don’t do any of those modeling places that ask for all these fees etc.
Print doesn’t pay as much as either especially when they are young. In the beginning it’s more about exposure.

Sometimes you have to get a child work permit and the school will know that your child is modeling or acting. I let them know and usually his manager will schedule later afternoon appointments.
This year we had to pick him up early from school twice. One year when he was in first grade he missed several days to film a mini-series. I always try to get his work and homework beforehand. I communicate with his teachers and school administration. I did pause for 2yrs, part of the reason was because how he was doing in school and me going to work full time.
My friends son career was taking off and she decided to homeschool him. But she also does this full time and left work.
