Crossing the street/vent thread
So in Germany, they have this cultural thing where you wait at the light to cross the street until you get the green man (like a walk symbol in green in the US.) They will literally wait for this green man even if it’s 2 AM. However, the younger generation (after being born in 1960, for example) just cross if there are no cars.
I was crossing the street (it was a double street if that makes any sense). It’s important to not cross the street when the red man (don’t walk in red) in front of children, so that you do not set a bad example. I’ve had this discussion with several old ladies about it.
So I’m stuck on the divider because I got the first green man, and then on the divider I got the red man. There were no children around and I really needed to get my train, so I crossed. When you start to understand how the traffic works here, you can cross safely with the red man.
So then someone says something to me. He was a foreigner, which makes it even stranger. I mean foreigners do this all the time! I was like what? Are you serious? Do you have a problem? He said no, and I said let’s keep it that way.
I was probably being rude, but I’m just so sick of the comments sometimes. My eyes literally roll back in my head.
And that’s my vent for today.
What’s your vent for the day?
That’s what it looks like:
However, that’s from another city (Berlin). The green man/red man is different in different regions.

Crossing the street/vent thread
OMG. 20 years ago in college, my friend and I were backpacking through Europe during my study abroad in Paris. We went to Lucerne, Switzerland, where they spoke German. Being from NYC, my friend and I thought nothing of crossing against the red light because there was literally no traffic. We were late for the bus and a little lost and in a rush. My friend and I took one step into the street and this old woman yells at us in German. I don’t speak a word of German but we could tell she was gesturing at the street and the light and wagging her finger at us. We got back on the curb and waited with her as she mumbled angrily to herself. We were like danke danke and we jogged ahead to the bus. We sit down and people are entering the bus and then the old woman gets on our bus too!!! She gave us a dirty look and we were so embarrassed. She have us the stink eye the entire trip. So uncomfortable!

My vent for the day is we have a pool party planned for tomorrow morning and there is a very good chance of rain. I've been scrambling to find alternative and whatever we chose will be super $$$$

Re: Crossing the street/vent thread
My pool decided to grow algae over the past few days. We NEVER grow algae. Not sure if it was the extreme heat over the weekend or what. Now we treated it and all the treatments made it milky white. It's disturbing to look at. Picture an entire pool filled with milk.
It finally gets warm and now it's unswimmable.

Cover the pool up. That will prevent algae. Add more choline or salt. It will get rid of it quick!

Re: Crossing the street/vent thread
ggrrr
last weekend was my cousin's quinceanera. it was a lovely party and i must say that i looked awfully cute!
but...
everything that could go wrong, went wrong that weekend.
had friday off to get my hair done. hair dresser charged me more than she ever has. it was crazy. cha ching!
my car overheated in the crazy heatwave. SO fixed it cha ching!
i had hurt my knee so i couldn't wear the heels i had planned. new shoes (kitten heels) cha ching!
DS came home for the event but forgot his shirt... trip to macy's... and the reason mommy bought his shirt: his debit card expired and he hadn't noticed. so he was broke. cha ching!
on our way to the even, SO's truck died... uber to and from cha ching!
fixing SO's truck cha ching! cha ching! cha ching!
i had a planned meeting with the dj for the party. signed contract and paid deposit. cha ching!
i couldn't let DS go back to base with only $5 in his wallet until he picked up his new debit card. cha ching!
tuesday morning i checked my bank account. i had $0.40 to my name.
ps. the reason i had to pay for everything is that SO had just paid for a lot of other issues we had the previous week. in the end, i'm using this to beat into SO's head that this is why i'm always squirreling away money. because sh!t happens.

Yeah, I get used to the stink eye. This was the first time I said something after 8 years of living here. I try to follow the customs here, but I was really in a rush.
Oh well. I’ll never see that person again, so who cares?

Same thing happened to me. Mine turned a horrible green. I had to drain it, wash the lining and refill it. Then I found a hole. Re-filled it again. Then the hose cracked. It never ends. A worker at a pool store suggested adding baking soda once a week. My coworker used it and cleared his pool up.

So it's finally clearing up. I emailed a pool company to help and he wrote back saying he didn't service my area but sounded like a filter issue and take the filter apart and clean it. Sure enough it was pretty bad inside and after DH cleaned it thoroughly it started clearing. I'd say it' about 90% better now. What a relief. I did NOT want to have to drain it. It's over 15,000 gallons! Best free advice I ever got. LOL
