Daycare breakfast

DD’s daycare provides meals. Last week her teacher was away so she went into a different class. The teacher in this class had breakfast out for the kids as they arrived (which I liked) however, I felt that the breakfast was mostly inadequate. A little bit of dry cereal, a tortilla with a slice of American cheese. There was always fruit but it just doesn’t seem to be substantial. I feel so bad that I never noticed this before, DD must be starving by lunch. I send a yogurt and fruit as a snack but she eats that in the afternoon (she can be picky with the lunch).

Anyway, what are some good grab and go things I can make ahead and send? I made zucchini muffins last night and have lots of muffin recipes but any other ideas that don’t need to be heated? I don’t want to make more work for the teacher.

Are you allowed to send food in with your DD? If she goes to a licensed daycare facility, you many not have that option. My DD goes to a daycare chain and no outside food is permitted due to allergies and possible cross contamination (with the exception of birthday celebrations but then you have to bring in something with peanut/tree nut free labels, etc.) DD usually eats a small snack on the way to daycare in the car before they serve breakfast to hold her over -- yogurt pouch, fruit pouch, mini muffins, dry cereal in a ziploc, an Eggo waffle, granola bar, Nutrigrain bar, etc.

Yes, I can send food. Just no nuts.

Does she eat eggs? If so, these are great -- can be made in mass quantity and frozen! Super quick to throw in the microwave and can be personalized to what she likes. DD loves making these with me and throwing in different ingredients. Egg Souffle Cups

If she hasn't complained, she may not be hungry. My son hardly eats all day and he is constantly on the go. He will literally have a single piece of Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast and say he is full. Personally I would not stress it.

I agree.

Is she eating breakfast as soon as she's dropped off? At my children's daycare, they literally serve breakfast for 1.5 hours since the kids arrive at different times. If my children want breakfast at 7am and again at 8am, they can eat twice.

Also, daycare breakfast lunch tends to be on the early side.

I believe in her usual class they all eat
together when the last one arrives. It’s a small class- only 4 kids right now and they all get there within an hour of each other.

I’m sure she can eat as much as she likes I just feel like you can only eat so many plain tortillas with American cheese Chat Icon

ETA she went in late today and ate a crossiant, 3 mini pancakes, blueberries and pineapple before we left the house so I get the sense she’s hungry in the morning.

Try giving her a snack for the car then, too. I usually give my kids a bag of mini muffins or something to snack on in the car for our very long 5 minute drive! But then they have it at daycare to eat in addition to whatever else is served.

What about sending in yogurt, fruit cups and string cheese, too? Is there a fridge they can keep extra snacks in? I send those items in weekly so they can supplement any meal or snack if my kids are hungry.
