Anyone follow the Zone food plan?
I recently met with a nutritionist who recommended an eating plan. After looking into it, I found it was the Zone Diet. I am a picky eater and find this difficult to follow. Anyone use this plan? Did it work? I am trying to lose a few pounds but also to be healthier. Any tips for quick and easy meals? It seems to take so much time figuring out the blocks and prepping and making the food (in addition to making something different for my family). Also, there are many foods I don't find on this list and I don't know how much of it makes a block - is there another list somewhere? TIA!

Look into macro counting. You can eat what you like as long as it fits. There are lots of FB groups that can help you get started.

Re: Anyone follow the Zone food plan?
If you’re a picky eater and are finding it hard to follow from now, you won’t stay on it and make it a lifestyle. Zone is pretty much just a lower carb / low fat diet. I tried it at some point but it didn’t make much sense because I eat that way already. My issue is with portion control. My life is chicken, eggs, tons of veggies , sometimes sweet potato and fruit. I can just eat enough of it to feed 16 people lol
Out of every diet I’ve done, I like weight watchers the best. There are zero food restrictions and It teaches you portion control. You may be able to work that program a little better then something that is restrictive
Maybe ask your nutritionist if he/she will help you towards your goal of losing some weight and being a healthier eater through a program that won’t restrict you as much. This way you can actually enjoy your meals and daily life and Not dread your next meal. Been there myself. It doesn’t stick

I second Weight Watchers. It teaches portion control and how to make smarter food choices. There are no food restrictions. The program also teaches you to eat until satisfied, but not stuffed. The best thing is that you and your family can eat the same foods, you don't have to make "Special" meals for yourself. Last night I made Trader Joe's Chicken Fried rice. 4 points per serving, and it was a good sized serving. I added extra chicken and veggies to boost the serving size without adding extra points.
It's worked well for DH and me, slow going, but at least we are losing. DH is eating healthier.
We also love the app - we can scan an item's barcode to see what the point value is per serving, then decide if it is "worth the points". The app also helps us track our points.

I agree with macro counting. I think it also depends on your tastebuds.
For example, I normally will have meat/fish/or legumes with veggies for my dinner. I save the leftovers for the next day’s lunch. I skip out on rice or bread if I am not in the mood for it. My breakfast is usually hard-boiled or fried eggs. I do add a lot of healthy fat (EVOO and butter).
I do not really eat dessert. I might have ice cream a few times in the summer, but I prefer a piece of fruit or yogurt.
Once a week, I will treat myself to something fried or a burger (guilty pleasure).
One thing that has helped me with portion size is Hello Fresh. Now, I’m going through a lot of stress, so eating is tough for me. However, before everything started I noticed a difference with Hello Fresh and portion sizes. It kept all the sizes in order.
Again, it depends on your tastebuds. I try to strictly eat protein and veg. That’s it. I save my carbs for savory treats and wine, lol. But that is what I prefer.

Thanks everyone. I am a carb and sweets person which is why this program is difficult. It does allow sweets (Iactually really like the Zone Double Dark Chocolate bar but that counts as two blocks.) If I want a piece of cake it is 3 carbs and I need to match it with 3 proteins and the fats, and then you have to be aware of best, fair, poor - so much work. Sone days I end up really hungry and other days I don't even use my last block. I will look into your suggestions and see if I can find one that is easier for me. Thanks again to all for your help. ?

Macros is a lot of work initially but it teaches you that no food is bad and helps you better understand portions. When I strictly followed macros, I was still eating all the foods I loved - pizza, ice cream, etc - and was able to recomp my body.

Definitely looking in to this one. My diet is not the best as I just don't really like healthy foods much. I do what I can but I usually eat too much and definitely too many sweets.
