credit cards and their rewards

which ones do you use?
what's the reward?
how do you use your rewards?

now that the dust is settling on the crazy party spending and all my wonderful medical bills, i'm starting to look on the horizon for my next adventure.

i would like 2019 to be the year of travel, or the year my traveling begins.

i'm curious of all kinds of rewards and what's out there... cash back, hotel and/or travel points, gift cards, etc.

tia.

Re: credit cards and their rewards

We got the Capital One Venture card and we are just using it to build up some points...haven't cashed anything in yet.
When we first got it they had a deal that if you spent X amount in the first 3 months you'd get like 30,000 bonus points or something- can't recall the exact amounts.
So we bought DD's furniture on it to get that bonus.
You can use the points for flights- any flight, any airline, no black out dates, etc.
Or hotels- even if you already booked a hotel you can call up capital one and as long as it was on that card they will credit you back for the value of your points.

Again, haven't built up enough to cash in yet, but it sounds pretty easy to use and flexibile
We put all our big ticket purchases on there to build up points faster

I use an HSBC credit card. I once got a free flight somewhere, and I have gotten cash back many times. I believe it is the rewards card.

Re: credit cards and their rewards

I have an Amex Gold Membership Rewards and an Amex SPG also linked to Membership Rewards.
With the Gold, I can transfer points to whatever program I need them in.

My timeshare is with Starwood, so I use the SPG card to earn points towards hotel.
DH also has an Amex Delta and a Chase Marriott.

Since SPG and Marriott will merge as of August 1st, I have to rethink the card situation to see which one will benefit us more while costing us less.

We also have the Capital One Venture card. I don't even bother to "cash in points" anymore. I just use the points to credit the bill if we travel since you need a certain amount of point to cash in anyway.

We also have the Discover card and I use that to credit my bill, give to charity or use it for free stuff on Amazon.

Are you a USAA member or eligible? Greatest company ever and their cash rewards program on the cc is awesome. We don’t bother with travel points cards.

We have a Chase Marriott and they have great rewards offers. We just paid for 3 weeks in China (in suites), have a room booked the night before our cruise all on points and still have points left. It literally has saved us thousands.

I have the Amazon Prime VISA.
Points roll automatically into my amazon account.
It’s 5% back on Amazon & Whole Foods. I think 1% everywhere else.

You are eligible for this because of your son !
Definitely look into it, especially for car and homeowners insurance.

Re: credit cards and their rewards

I have the AmEx Hilton Surpass and got a 100,000 point bonus after 3 months. That was about 2 years ago. Before that card I had a Visa Hilton card. I've always done well with the Hilton cards and have gotten free vacations and stays for years.

I just yesterday signed up for the JetBlue MasterCard so I can fly for free.

My parents have a Cap One card and we've used that for airfare but since they don't spend as much lately it's going to take a while to get points.

If you google or follow on FB The Points Guy, he offers super helpful tips.

I have a Citi Double. 2% on everything and I put everything on the card (even my daughter's college tuition) and pay it off every month. Last year I got almost 3K in cash back.
