warning to parents in Mt. Sinai seen on FB-sharing
Saw this shared in my feed, just passing it along.I don't know the date or the original poster.
Sharing from a mom in Mount Sinai...
Two kids were approached while riding bikes in the Mt Sinai area of long island. A man in a van with a dog called them over to see his friendly dog. Their mom saw and waved them home. The white van had the name John Engel plumbing but there is no such business. This could be a removable magnetic sign . Please alert Suffolk county area friends and relatives about this situation.

That's scary. I live a few towns over from there. I wonder if the police were notified. There is a company with a similar name (the next town over). Looks like that guy has 2 sons in their 20's (neither named John though). They should send the police to question them and see if they were involved.

I live nearby and it was just posted that this was all a misunderstanding. The person lives in the community, the dog was in the window of the van, his van was stopped waiting to pull out of the Post Office, traffic was backed up, the kids were on their bike, the man said he could pet the dog, as it was hanging out the window.

So this guy is in a van with a dog and let some kids he didn't know approach the van to pet the dog and didn't think his actions might be considered suspicious and would get people in a frenzy??

Well it said that traffic was backed up which means there's a lot of people around...and he was pulling out of the post office, not slowly trolling the neighborhood. Maybe the kids started talking about the dog & he just said "you can pet him if you want". Of course only the people involved know...but this just seems like a friendly neighbor getting in trouble for being friendly. But I get it, in today's world.

No, he stopped the van before the sidewalk so the kids could cross without having to worry about them getting hit. He was waving them past so they could cross the exit safely. The dog was just enjoying the window down. The kids started towards the dog and he said the dog was friendly.

Yeah this sounds perfectly legit to me. Honestly, this poor guy can't catch a break. When it comes to kids you can't even look at them or be nice without people on FB coming out with the pitch forks and calling you a pedophile.
