Need help navigating through Staten Island!
I have a friend doing the 5 Borough bike race in May, and was thinking about meeting him at the end with his team because they are having a whole tailgate party.
It will be in Fort Wadsworth
I have no idea anything about SI.
I wanted to avoid driving, but if I had to - is there parking nearby? If I get there early in the day, are there things I can do to kill time before meeting up with him?
If I decide to take Staten Island ferry from the city, is it easy to get to? I saw something about taking the St. George ferry there - so would I have to take 2 ferries? From the St. George ferry is it right there?
I am having a hard time figuring this all out through googling so I was hoping someone who knows SI well could help me out.
TIA!

I lived there for more than 15 years before coming to LI. There is only one ferry. Staten island ferry which stops at St. George from Manhattan. If you are wanting to explore SI after his run, i would take your car and park nearby. If you are gonna explore Manhattan and/ or just hanging out at Fort wadworth, than take the ferry to SI and get an Uber. Short trip and probably doesn't cost much. I wouldn't walk from the ferry to fort wadworth though (its a sketchy part of town). There is a bus from the ferry that passes by Fort Wadworth (S51) but it may get rerouted because of the bike race.

most of the people who ride the event will be parking by the ferry (if they drove). I normally meet at a bar by the ferry and hang out for a few hours till things calm down as there will a very long line getting back to NY. There is a public parking garage around the corner for the ferry. You may want to park there and meet up your friend.
To directly answer your question, Fort Wadsworth tailgate is part of the race. you have to pass though to finish the tour. I don't know how one would party there unless you buy all the vendors food. Unless of course, its a different port of Fort Wadsworth. The ferry is another few miles from this point.
You may just want to ask your friend where they are meeting.
BTW, i would ask how long he normally takes as the time may vary when people get to the end. I typical have done the course within 4-5 hours the past few years. I'm not going this year :(

Re: Need help navigating through Staten Island!
The St. George ferry is the SI ferry. St. George is the SI side, Whitehall is the NYC side. You'd take one ferry.
I wouldn't park in St. George or any where around that area, but that's me. I would take the ferry and then take an Uber to Fort Wadsworth.
