Call me last Minute Charlie
The same thing happened to my 8 year old this year. He got invited to a lot of parties around the time of his birthday and we opted not to have a party.
I would just stick to Kalahari - he's 4 and will enjoy his trip a lot!

I wouldn't feel bad. He will love the trip. Invite a couple of his friends over and have them watch a movie and get pizza. That's enough!

Re: Call me last Minute Charlie
No need to make a party. Don't feel the peer pressure!! LOL!
You are taking him away and giving him a special gift and he's only 4. Enjoy it! I stopped throwing big class parties for my boys, but they still go to their friends.

Re: Call me last Minute Charlie
I dont know...i think kalahari is a great gift.
I know what you mean about feeling the pressure...like you are a terrible mom if you dont have a party every year for your kid! lol. My son is turning 5 and I am debating if I should have a party or not. I just feel likes its such a waste...its like 350-500 bucks for an hour and half, pizza cake and done...its crazy. He then gets a bunch of toys he doesnt need...and honestly I dont think its something he would miss....so we were thinking of doing a day in NYC with him and just us, leave the baby with my parents so he has a special day just for him. Ride the double decker bus...go to the lego store...and something else. I just feel like thats something he would remember as opposed to an hour party...

Enjoy Kalahari, that is already expensive. I did that for my sons 7th birthday and he had so much fun. We took my nieces.
No need to feel guilty about a party. My son has never had a class party and he's surviving.

Don't do a party. Bring cupcakes and goody bags to school either before spring break or after.
I would not waste the time and $$ on a party for classmates.

Re: Call me last Minute Charlie
I wouldn't stress yourself and do a party, Kalahari is a GREAT way to spend a birthday. In fact, we did that for my son one year instead of a big party. We decided it's more fun and better use of money to take our kids on vacations for their birthday instead of a party that's over in 1.5 hrs. We've done Kalahari, Boston, Busch Gardens etc.
Have a great trip and Happy Birthday to your LO.

Do not feel guilty. My DS is the same age and he is not getting a party. I honestly feel as though it is a waste of money as a PP said. Plus, he doesn't know what he is "missing" at this age anyway.

Yes - and Kalahari will be more memorable than a 90 minute party. I've felt guilt about this over the years myself - but, I only did 3 parties (2 for DS 1 and 1 for DS 2) so I have a million ways to justify not having a party lol.

Re: Call me last Minute Charlie
We don’t do parties. We always do a trip, Kalahari being a favorite. We almost did parties a few years but then I started to feel awful about spending all that money when a third of the kids will show up, not making our minimum, and after 2 hours the fun would be over. For the same $$ as party we have 2 days of family fun some where they love.
