Weird FB question
I know that if you search for someone that you're not friends with, they'll show up in the section of "do you know them and want to friend them" - and I'm assuming I would show up in that person's list, too.
However, someone just showed up in my list that I'm curious about. She's a therapist I saw 5 years ago and I only saw her for a few months.
Is there some algorithm that pulled her from a really old Google calendar or maybe she looked me up (which would be weird for a therapist to do - especially 5 years later).

I think FB can pull from your computer in other ways. Things you have googled etc. Stuff they find in your email. I m always connected with things I looked up on the computer.

Weird FB question
Even if I haven't looked her up since I left 5 years ago? That's weird! The only mention of her would be in my calendar or if there was an old email from her and I haven't interacted with her name since I left (and I never looked her up on FB).

I'm pretty sure that FB can access your email contacts. Thus, if you emailed her at some point in time, FB will match it with their profile and then suggest them as a friend. I email au pair candidates all the time and they always show up as suggested friends eventually.

She probably has a mutual friend. I get those things from people with mutual friends all the time. I delete them all of course

If you email from a free service, it often stores contacts in your email list - and Facebook (and LinkedIn) pull from there.

Weird FB question
This is one of the million things I hated about FB. I feel like there are no boundaries whatsoever and I feel like FB pulls info from every corner of your life. Hate FB. lol

This. Highly unlikely that a therapist would look you up, especially after 5 years. I'm in the field and can honestly say that regardless of the therapeutic relationship, I have never looked anyone up. Even the really intense and long term therapeutic relationships are just work, and kept very separate. It's an ethical line not to be crossed.

Re: Weird FB question
I have people that used to work for me come up a lot and I am not searching for them and I doubt they are searching for me. They are all young 20 somethings, college kids. I am fairly certain it's just from them being contacts in my phone or email.

Re: Weird FB question
The other day a kid showed up on mine. He used to coach my son in baseball. I have definitely never looked him up on facebook, I do not have his email. I have his phone number. His mother is a friend of mine but she is not on facebook. Its so weird...and scary how they find people for you. ETA: no friends in common either.

That's probably why....you have his phone number. Many people have their phone numbers tied to their FB accounts.

Re: Weird FB question
It could be tied to her business if she promotes on Fb, could be friends or people in coming, things you searched for.. it’s all tied to an ID that you have and algorithms they use on internet behavior.
FB is very serious about their users privacy, in other words they don’t share it with other companies like some CRM companies do. An even then it’s restricted on what a company can share on a users internet behavior and becoming even more restricted with new rules and regulations.

I've wondered how this worked...the other day in the people I may know section, my old OBGYN that I used like 10 years ago popped up...and trust me I wasn't searching for him!!
