Cost of contacts lens fitting
How much is standard to pay for a contact lens fitting?
My DD has a current prescription and wears glasses . She wants contact lens for special occasions. The ped eye dr we go to said they charge $250 for a contact fitting plus the cost of lens. I have used my insurance this year for new glasses for her so this is out of pocket
My question is, is $250 the norm for a fitting? Anything I am missing if I go to a wise eyes kinds place to get it done?

Cost of contacts lens fitting
I go to an optometrist in a place that sells glasses but isn't a chain and don't use any insurance. The entire exam is around $110. I've been to LensCrafters and it was approximately the same. I used my AAA discount at LensCrafters.
I've used optometrists from the beginning for contacts because the opthalmologist office I went to didn't carry/fit contacts.

My optometrist charges $75 for am exam. I don't know if there is an additional contact lens fitting, as I have been wearing contacts since I was 11 years old. But I would go to an optometrist as opposed to an ophthalmologist to get fitted for contacts. Fitting people for glasses and contacts is what optometrists do best!

I think at my last visit I paid around 100 for the fitting plus 50 for exam.

If she has an easy to fit prescription, I'd just go to a LensCrafters kind of place for contacts.

I have an eye plan through work - so I pay minimal for the exam and about 50.00 extra for the "contact" fitting (even though I've been wearing the same brand/script for years).

I have an eye plan through my job and my husbands so 2 different plans because both are very cheap through our employers and I don’t pay anything one picks up what the other doesn’t pay.
But when I was younger and on my moms, I paid $50

The contact Lens fitting portion is about $125 of the yearly fee (plus copay for the general exam and the fee for the photo of my eye amongst other things).

I go to Walmart and it's like $110 for the exam and fitting. The doctor there is pretty thorough, does the glaucoma, dilation if you want it, pictures, etc.. I think $250 is because you are going to a "specialist".

Wait, I'm very confused....you ( and another poster) already wear contacts and your doc still charges you a fitting fee every year? That is crazy !!! All I pay for is my exam and the contacts! And I have been wearing contacts 28 years and have seen a few optometrists and nobody ever charged a fitting fee, unless they did my very first time at 11, which I don't remember. Or am I reading this wrong?
