a bit scared... ok, a lot scared
with a little "bullying" from one of our lovely LIF members, i am now smack in the middle of scheduling TWO eye surgeries for myself. my stomach is doing flips as i type this.
after living in denial for a little while, i finally went to the eye doctor and another eye doctor and another eye doctor.
i am the proud owner of two, yes two, cataracts that are making it harder and harder to see.
in the next few days, i will be navigating my company's policies and procedures on taking time off, navigating my health insurance to make sure i do things right, and navigating my savings to pay for the super, special bionic lenses they will insert.
but i am scared. i'm really scared. but i'm even more scared of what might happen if i do nothing. so, here i go. say a little prayer for me, please.

Aww, I would feel the same way. I hate doctors, medical procedures, surgeries. I am TERRIBLE with it all.
But know that the procedure your having- cataract removal- is so common.
My MIL had it, my FIL, and they said it was a breeze. And the best part- after the surgery they saw better than they had in YEARS.
So it will be well worth it.
Best of luck! Soon it will all be over and you'll be seeing great again!

Re: a bit scared... ok, a lot scared
My mom had this done last year. She was so scared because she never had surgery (she was 77 at the time) I couldn’t believe how simple it was! She was out within an hour. That included everything from intake to putting the bandage on her eye. She was so worried that she wouldn’t want to do the other eye because she was so sure if would be terrible. She came out of there laughing with the nurses and said ahe couldn’t believe how simple it really was.
Worst part was the amount of drops you need during the healing process.
She has always worn glasses. Now she only needs them for reading.
The way she knew she needed the surgery was one day out of nowhere she was sitting on the couch at my sister house, looked at my sister and said “I know you’re standing in front of me talking, but all I can see is a shadow of you. Nothing else” they rushed to her eye dr (she’s diabetic so they thought the worst) and from one day to the next, she was almost blind !! please don’t wait too long. Get it done as soon as you can.
P.S. she said she never knew colors until Now. She’s an artist and she said she can’t believe how bright and clear the world really is!

oh my goodness... YES.
yesterday, they dilated my eyes to confirm the size and location of the cataracts. once my eyes were dilated, EVERYTHING LOOKED SO BRIGHT. i was telling my cousin that it felt like going from a black and white tv to ULTRY high definition!!!
i didn't want to go to sleep because i knew that the effects would fade away and i would be back to seeing shades of gray in the morning.
when it happens slowly, you don't notice what you're missing.
yes, this is one detail i am so excited about and looking forward to.

My aunt had it done last year and the only regret she had is that she waited so long.

OMG!! I think I would be petrified too! I can really only see out of one eye, so I am very diligent about seeing the eye doctor. Good luck!

I know the feeling - it took me YEARS to work up the nerve to get lasik. But, it was the best decision I've ever made. I think cataract surgery is similar. You will be in and out and then you will be able to see so much better. Try to keep it out of your head and just keep telling yourself it's something you just have to do.

You’ll be fine! My dad, who is literally the biggest baby, just had this done. Two surgeries, one cataract at a time.
And this is someone who passed out when I had my ears pierced.
