Costco returns

I've heard Costco has a good return policy. I bought a Shark vacuum from them a little over a year ago. It still runs but is no longer running on the higher speed option for cleaning rugs, so pretty much now is only good for cleaning hard floors. Obviously I need to be able to clean my rugs too though. Should I bother trying to return/exchange it? I dont want to "take advantage" of their liberal return policy, but I feel like a vacuum should last more than 1 year.

Return it.
We returned a dehumidifier after using it for almost a year. It just stopped running. They took it back no questions asked.

Considering the video going around of someone returning their dead Christmas tree this month I think they'd take it back. I'd probably start by calling the manufacturer though to see if they can help you trouble shoot the problem.

Too funny. I was using my Shark vacuum recently to clean up Christmas tree needles and wishing I had returned it to Costco. I really hate it. It doesn't get much use because we have hardwood and I mostly use my older vacuum that's still ok, but shuts off if it's used for too long.

I had a different Shark for several years that I loved, and it worked great, but then I "upgraded" to this one last year, and gave away the other one. Regretting that bc I bet the older one still works great. I loved the one i have now, until the carpet setting stopped working.

Which one do you like? I think I have a Navigator Professional. I hate the pivoting motion and that it feels so top heavy as I'm pushing it. It also falls over constantly it I use the wand, The attachments have to be taken off to click the wand back. I should have brought it back right away, but I never went to look for another.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe this but my shark rocket just broke! I've had it just over a year. I just opened the canister to empty it and the hinge totally cracked. I think I'm going to call them but if not it's going back to Kohls hopefully.

I had the Navigator first, and was very happy w it for about 4 or 5 years. Then got the Rocket and liked it even better since it was much lighter but seemed to have the same strong suction to deep clean rugs. Now the strong suction has disappeared, even after dh took it all apart and still couldn't fix it, so I guess something in the motor that powers the suction died. And yes I do remember getting annoyed when the Navigator would keep falling over when I used the wand, another reason I liked the Rocket better. Just wish it lasted longer.

Kohls also has a very lenient return policy, so they may let you return it.

I would return it - don't you get a 2 year warranty from purchasing from Costco?

Personally... I wouldn't return a vacuum after using it for a year.

I def would. When I pay hundreds for a vacuum, I expect it to last more than 1 year. If everyone else tried returning them, these manufacturers would stop making "disposable" products that cost more to fix than they are even worth.

Years ago, when an appliance broke, you'd get it fixed. Now, it costs more to fix the one you have (or the parts aren't even available to have it fixed). It's easier and cheaper to just throw it away and buy a new one. It's so bad for the environment. Not just the impact on the landfills, but the energy it uses to manufacture and ship new products.

I agree, for the amount it cost, it should last more than 1 year. I use it very gently too, have a very small house that takes at most 10 min to vacuum, and on average use it once a week. In total, its probably been run less than 10 hours all together. Making it cost about $20 an hour. Chat Icon

Just figured I'd update for others having issues. I called shark directly and for about $20 in shipping they're sending me a new canister which is basically the whole motor of the vacuum. I figured I'd probably lose about that much from used Kohls cash if I returned the whole thing so definitely worth it.

This is good to know, thank you. I may just call them.

Costco returns

So here's an odd update: I was just about to leave to return the vacuum, and decided to wipe it down first so it wouldn't be gross for the Costco employees, and my toddler started playing with it. I let him, figuring it's broken anyway, why not? Then all of a sudden the motor and suction sounded stronger again, so dh looked at it closely and found little sensors that were covered in dust. He wiped them off, and now it works fine. Chat Icon so I won't be returning it after all, all thanks to my 1 year old rough housing it a bit Chat Icon he must have loosened some of the dust!
