Selling jewelry?
How do I go about selling it? I have an e-ring and a wedding band. I went to a pawnshop last night and they wanted to give me $150 for both. I know I'm not going to get as much as I paid (at least $700 for the band and I believe the ring was around $3K) but $150 seems ridiculous. LOL.

Re: Selling jewelry?
Go to a reputable jewelry store that is also licensed as a buyer/seller.
I go to Lee's Jewelers in Whitestone. My rings were made there, and we have sold old jewelry there as well.

Re: Selling jewelry?
Definitely go to a reputable jeweler that also buys. They are more reputable and more likely to give you more than a pawn shop would

Selling jewelry?
Go to a reputable jeweler who also buys. Just understand that diamonds are practically worthless to jewelers...there is no shortage of them . As the jeweler who bought my e-ring as a favor since he knew my family said, Diamonds are only worth something to brides. They have no resale value, unless we are talking about a truly incredible stone! But you will definitely get more than what the pawn shop offered you!

Re: Selling jewelry?
I went to 2 places today (Busy Bee Jewelers on Sunrise in Massapequa and Good Old Gold in Massapequa).
I liked the quotes at Busy Bee for two pieces, but not for the E-ring. Good Old Gold had a better buy quote and they also offer consignment, which will give you more money. The only thing is that you have to wait until it sells in consignment and that could be a few months. There is no charge and they get a commission. So let’s say the consignment price you get quoted is $800. They then sell it for $1000 and they take the $200 and you get $800.
I think I’m going to do consignment and Good Old Gold is pretty reputable.

Re: Selling jewelry?
I sold jewelry years ago to good old gold. Not sure how fair of a price It was (I only went there) but it was jewelry from my high school boyfriend I got about $600 and change for all of it.

Re: Selling jewelry?
I feel your pain. I have a diamond pendant from Kay Jewelers that my ex bought me. It cost 2,500. I tried to take it to multiple places that buy gold and diamonds. They offered me $300. They must have some sort of formula because they all said $300. The one place told me to try selling it privately if I wanted more. I would take less than 1k for it, but no way only $300.
It's weird cause I brought it to the same place that bought my e-ring and they gave me almost what he paid for that.

Yes the mark up at retail places like Kay, etc is so high that you never get anything close to what you paid when you go to sell. Diamonds are pretty much a terrible investment I guess.... At least gold fluctuates with the market.

Yeah, it's crazy. I never expected to get close to what he paid, I just didn't think it would be that low. I wonder why they bought the e-ring for almost what he paid, when that was something he likely overpaid for too because it was also from a retail chain.
