Would this bother you? (shopping experience)

Went to Best Buy to look at laptops so I asked about the return policy (asked 3 different ppl):
Clerk 1 - until Jan 14th due to the holiday return policy

Clerk 2 - 14 days
me - what about holiday return policy?
Clerk 2 - it does not apply to laptops

Clerk 3 - 14 days
me - what about holiday return policy?
Clerk 3 - hmmm let me verify....you're right, you have until Jan 14th

So these 3 things annoyed me a tiny bit...not HUGE (although I expect the workers to know the answer to probably the #1 question from ppl)

--------
But THIS REALLY bothered me.

When I was leaving, I saw someone at the door - his name tag said "General Manager". So I thought, if anyone will know, its him:
me - hi, whats the return policy on laptops?
him - 15 days
me - oh...its not part of the holiday return policy?
him - it is. 15 days after Christmas
me - WTF!!

I thought his answer was terrible.
I think most people would not ask for clarification (like I did) so they would leave with the wrong answer (thinking its only 15 days not 7 weeks)

It might be ok if it was a clerk who gave that, but as a general manager he should be better at customer relations (supposed to be) and give better answers

My wife thinks I expect too much.
My friend said it wouldnt bother him (but its the wrong answer!) lol

It would bother me but, I'm not surprised. I'd check the website though.

Honestly, no. I would assume I know more than a seasonal temp employee who is there for the holiday. The GM should know, but I don't consider a sales person as reliable as in writing, so I would want to read the policy for myself.

But the thing with the GM was his response which I thought was pretty snarky.

GM - 15 days
me - oh, only 15 days
GM - 15 days AFTER Christmas

wtf...its like one of those answers my coworker gives to someone when they are trying to be a jerk and they can't get in trouble because they can say "Its the right answer if you look at it from this point of view"

It would annoy me, yes. But I've learned to not believe anything they say unless it is in writing. So at some points I wont even bother asking because I know whatever they tell me isn't enforceable anyway.

If you were to return it they'll just say its not the policy. You saying your salesperson said anything different won't help. He said/she said and the company is going to stick to their written policy no matter what you say. So I dont bother.
