Another STTN spin off
My DS is 14 months and still wakes for a bottle usually around 10:30 and 4:30. He's a chub and does not need to eat. But I don't have the heart to do cry it out. So I'm wondering for those of you who had kids that didn't STTN until an older age did you have to sleep train or did they just eventually do it on their own? Any methods other than CIO?

You just have to stop. It's a habit and you're encouraging the habit.

Another STTN spin off
My DS nursed in the middle of the night until he was 22 months. One night, I had enough. He cried, I went in and told him he was a big boy and no more mommy milk at night. He cried for a few minutes and passed out. He's been a good sleeper ever since (except when we travel!).

Dd is three and still doesn't sttn.
My opinion is that they're little for such a short period of time in the grand scheme of things. Hell, I don't like sleeping alone, so why should I expect my three year old to?
Needless to say, my 11 mo son doesn't sttn either, and still eats 2-4 times (sometimes more) during the night

This. Your ped is 100% correct.

Re: Another STTN spin off
We reduced the amount of formula in the bottle by an ounce or two every few days and then just offered an ounce or so of water , they stopped waking bc they were not getting anything exciting.

I agree. I think some kids might be great sleepers naturally but I think most need to be trained. I don't know if there's a better way than CIO , I'm not sure.

This is what we did too and it actually worked (at 8 months). But at 14 months, I think you need to cut out one bottle cold turkey and let him CIO, but give the reduced bottle until he gets used to not waking.
