Thanksgiving dinner out?
Has anyone had Thanksgiving out at a restaurant or catering hall? Which ones do you recommend? Our family wants to try something new this year.
Thanks!

Re: Thanksgiving dinner out?
Almost every year for a while now. I love it. We go to the Snapper Inn. They have an amazing sit down menu. They have the traditional turkey dinner, but they have a ton of other choices for those who don't want turkey. They have a kid's menu too. The views are so pretty- right on the water and they have it decorated for Christmas with a pretty tree right in the center of the dining room.
It's great. I am not a fan of buffets- at all- so I like that they have it as a sit down, 4 course meal. A lot of places only have buffets for Thanksgiving

I've done it. Went to Ben's. It was ok.
The place was packed so it seems a lot of people eat out.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner out?
i did it for a few years when living in NJ.
i have mixed feelings. it was amazing to not have to do the prep work or to do the clean up... but... it just didn't "feel" like a family holiday. it felt like just another nice dinner out.
then again, we did it because there were only 2 or 3 of us and i didn't want to cook a feast for so few people.
i say, give it a shot. you won't know if it's the thing for your family until you try it. if it doesn't meet your expectations, it can be the thanksgiving dinner you'll talk about for years to come.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner out?
I don't live on LI and did it once here with DH's family and once by MIL's in PA. Both times, I enjoyed it. I am hoping to talk my mom into going out this year on LI.
Thanksgiving has been so depressing since my father died 4 years ago, and I really think we need a new tradition. If anyone can recommend a place in southeast/central Nassau or SW Suffolk that would be great!

How about a place with a cozy, old-timey American feel like the Milleridge Inn or Three Village Inn? Both are decorated beautifully for the holidays and both have nice village areas to walk it off after.

We did the Three Village Inn for years, but not since Lessings took it over. But it was very nice when we did it.
We have been going to my parents for the past couple of years now though because it's easier w my son and step son
