Spirit Airlines and seat selection. ugh.
I just booked a flight for next month to Myrtle Beach, sort of a last minute decision since the prices were low. However I just got charged $63 for seat selection so I could sit with dh and ds (dd is a lap child). So ridiculous.
A coworker told me that she never pays to choose her seats, that she just goes up to the ticket agent and then requests later on to have her seated together with her dh... has anyone done this? I didn't know if I should risk it since we are traveling with kids. But since we go there often if it's something they don't care about I'll know for next time...

I wouldn't risk it, you could get separated. I've seen it happen on other airlines, and Spirit is a crappy airline to begin with, so I doubt they would even care if you weren't seated together!

I did pay it (it was $63 total) but my coworker looked at me like I was crazy for doing it! ha.

We always pay - I don't want to take the risk. But, I do notice that a lot of people don't pay in advance (like if you look at the plane a couple days before you leave, it looks completely empty but, when you fly every seat is taken).

Yes you are right. The plane looked completely empty except for a few taken seats.

Re: Spirit Airlines and seat selection. ugh.
I live in MB so I have taken this flight many times. I have never paid to chose my seat. I always check in 24 hours before online and we are all seated together. The only way I could see it being an issue is if you don't check in online and wait until you get to the airport when most of the other passengers have already checked in. They are cracking down on bags now they will not let you bring a purse and a small personal bag (must fit under seat) so if you have both make sure your purse can fit inside of the bag.

Thanks. I guess I know for next time. That stinks about the bag policy- Usually I bring a large tote bag with me with all of the kids snacks, Ipads, etc.

I read about that. We are trying Allegiant this year out of Stewart but, I've heard that they make Spirit look good
