New SAHM: Staying Social
After a LONG battle, my twin girls are finally here
I am taking a year and a half off from my teaching career to be home with them, and I am starting to have some anxiety about my husband going back to work because I feel like I will be really isolated, coming from such a busy and social career. My friends all had their babies years before me, so I guess I'm looking to find groups to make sure I'm getting out of the house and not going totally stir-crazy.
Recommendations or advice?

Look for a moms group on Facebook for your neighborhood.
Try the library. Sometimes they have a story time and you'll see lots of different age ranges for kids that aren't school age

New SAHM: Staying Social
Congrats!! I had my twins in January. Initially I felt so isolated and miserable and wanted to go back to work once they got easier I loved being home and signed them up for library and now swimming. They are 3 months and I just went back and I HATE being back. So miserable. I would sign up for library classes. I work 3 evening days and 2 day time days so I take them to classes during the day, do activities at home with them and my one son has PT as well! Feel free to fm me! Congrats!

Omg! Congratulations! I am thrilled for you. I would do a music together or gymboree class. See if your hospital has a new moms class.

With bitty babies, I wasn't all that social... but met lots of people walking in my neighborhood. I just said "hi". It takes you far.

Re: New SAHM: Staying Social
We did Mommy and me classes at the Y. I met some really good friends with kids the same ages as mine there. Also try library kids programs. Congrats!

I'm a huge fan of the library. I started talking my first to programs when she was 4 months old and we've been going ever since. I've made so many great friends as have my kids and next year dd1 will start kindergarten with some of the kids she's been friends with since she was a baby which is so nice. It's also nice to build a network of families with same aged kids in your town that you can go to for play dates, last minute childcare, moms nights out, etc.

Congrats! I'm so happy for you!!!!
It's hard a first with newborns. I remember feeling the same when my husband left for work. You're lucky it's a great time of year. Get out for walk. It will help tremendously.
Also join a local meetup group. You'll get into the swing of things and make new mom friends at classes. You'll meet others at the park, library classes, etc.
Im also around!

I do alot of library classes and met 2 or 3 moms that way. Most of the ones in my neighborhood are the nannies bringing the kids which sucks for trying to meet other moms. Now that my DD is older i will be enlisting her in mommy and me classes or dance and hopefully meet other moms that way.

Congratulations! My twins are 6 now and I went back to work after 12 weeks, but I remember there being some kind of social group for moms of multiples. I believe both Nassau county and Suffolk county had twin meet up groups. Join Long Island Twins on FB and ask on there. I don't know if that's where I heard about it but I am sure someone on there would know.

I'm so happy for you!!! Ahhh! Gorgeous girls!
Def stay on social media sites. Town boards. When they are a little older mommy and me classes are great
For now when it's nice out go for walks and to the park. Can def make some good friends there
Also check your local library for classes etc

Re: New SAHM: Staying Social
It's tough when they're super little. Once they're old enough to enjoy classes, it gets much easier to meet people. We started a music class around 7 months (if you're interested, I know one of our favorite teachers teaches in your area). One of my closest mom friends is someone I met from that class. I've also made mom friends at the park.

Re: New SAHM: Staying Social
I've made friends with other mom's at the library, and while out for walks to the park.
I joined a meetup group, but didn't really seem to find moms I connected with in this particular group, but a lot of them seemed to have made great friends so that might be an option.
I work part-time so it was hard to do regular scheduled classes.
