K-5 parents, recess question
My son didn't go out yesterday (the 60 degree day) for recess in kindy and I was wondering if this is common in elementary schools or if ours is particularly wimpy about wet ground? Did your kids go out yesterday? Do you know your school's policy for recess? Thanks!

K-5 parents, recess question
Our school sent the kids out for recess yesterday but it was on the blacktop only - they weren't allowed to go on the grass or playground.

Both my 1st grader & Pre-k kids went out to play on the blacktop, not the grass or playsets.

My 1st and 2nd graders went outside yesterday. As long as it's not raining at the time they go out and it's above 45 degrees they play outside. They bring out towels to dry the slides etc., but my 2nd grader usually plays football/soccer etc on the fields.

My first grader was out yesterday but came home full of mud. I don't mind but I can see why a teacher wouldn't take them out yesterday because everything was still wet.

LOL I got a call from the nurse about a month back saying that DD had taken a fall on the playground.
I panicked thinking she got hurt.
She said no no she is fine, but she is covered in mud, so can you bring her fresh clothes.
I get there and her jacket was CAKED in mud, her shoes were DESTROYED- just COATED in mud, her pants were covered.
It looked like she had been rolling around in a pig pen.
So yeah, they go out - an yeah I would have preferred they didn't go on the grass that day.

My kindergartners told me yesterday that they went outside for recess but were only allowed on the blacktop.

Same as others above. My Kindergartener went out, but blacktop only.
The go outside unless it's raining, snowing, under 17 degrees or there's a heat advisory.

Ours went out Wednesday (field only could not use equipment because it was wet), Thursday, and Friday.
