Filing police report/suspicious car around neighborhood
What information do I need to give if I file a police report? I've noticed this van on my block frequently lately throughout the day and then last night he was parked at the end of the street with lights off. I probably wouldn't have thought too much of it except yesterday someone posted a picture & description of the van on a local FB Moms group saying they noticed him driving around the area actively checking out houses so now I'm suspicious. I'm always paranoid that the person will find out that I reported them (I know I'm neurotic!). Can you decline to give your info when calling? I've never called the police before but for some reason this van just is so creepy to me, what do I even say when I call?

Call your local non emergency number and explain what you just wrote here. Is the person staying in the van? Most likely they will send someone to check it out. You can remain annomous, but there's still caller Id etc.

Good advice, I have done this a couple times. The house across the street from me was vacant for a long time and there were a few issues and this is what I did.
Also, if you have a neighborhood watch, you should notify them. We have one and it's useful.

Just out of curiosity, why would you not want to give your name to the police?
People sometimes worry that the suspect will find out who they are and retaliate against them.
But the cops would never give out your info.
