Spin off - Do you find it alarming how many people believe that memes
or other things found on social media are true?
I love those Obama/Biden memes but OBVIOUSLY they are not true, but do people think they are??
I feel this was a huge issue with this election, people think everything is fact that they see in a meme?

Re: Spin off - Do you find it alarming how many people believe that memes
Yes. Very.
I swear, I have so many people on my FB feed that post nonstop "articles", memes, links, videos etc and they take it as gospel. I feel some people have had their brains sucked out of their head. lolol I wish they would at least make an effort to verify a source before posting so much nonsense and misinformation. It just makes them look foolish and then the stupidity just perpetuates across social media.

I'm a little concerned about how many people get their "news" from chatboards and social media...

It is very difficult for me not to judge my FB friends who post the most blatantly ill-researched, one sided, narrow-minded and stereotypical (racist) memes.
Very much want to unfollow them!

Yes, people believe that bullcrap! I had a girl posting a picture of the tax plan math for Trump that had obviously been passed around 162,421 times prior to the election and said how much money they would be saving. People are too stupid and lazy to fact check stuff.

Yes. It's still happening. There's one going around showing 2 maps that say that the areas that voted democrat are also the same areas that have high crime. It's been proven as false and yet it's being shared like crazy.

This convo happened the night before the election: Friend: I can't vote in the election because I am not registered with a party? Me: No, you can, you just can't vote in the primaries Friend: I can vote online too, right? Friend: What are primaries?
The next morning she is fighting with me how people have abortions at 38 weeks
She gets all her info from FB

I've had my kids come home with copies of memes in their folders about certain topics. THAT is scary.

I agree. Social Media and memes are an awful place to get your information. That being said, aren't all news sources biased and giving out severely slanted information. Why else would I be telling my slurpeekid that they were going to get to see the first ever female president, then have to explain how the Donald won. One thing I have learned is that talking politics is pointless. You will never get your opposition to agree with you and you aren't going to change your view. (not you directly, you get the point)

Yes, the memes as a credible source of news are out of control on social media. Someone posted one earlier.

Re: Spin off - Do you find it alarming how many people believe that memes
The level of ignorance is appalling and depressing.
I have changed my mind about certain things after speaking with intelligent people. I have seen smart people change their minds about certain things.
But the ignorance surrounding this election is obstinate--even prideful. People on facebook are proud of their ignorance. I guess it separates them from the "elite"?
I can respect informed people with whom I disagree. I CANNOT respect people who cannot be bothered to learn what the heck they're talking about before they open their mouths.

I think there is some truth connected to them and then people take it to another level. Always research everything. Don't believe all that is shown on media.
