Talk Me Off a Ledge Before I Kill My Husband - RE Christmas Train
We all knows the Christmas Train tickets go on sale in the Summer. I was able to get tickets for the Essex Xmas Train in CT for a Thursday night because we were off of work that day.
I literally could have picked any week day and just taken off of work but I picked THIS DAY bc it was easier just being off of work.
Since I got the tickets my DH was offered a new job and of course they need him to travel the entire 4 days before the Xmas train. We figured we will make it work bc they said he could have that next day off...
NOW I find out that he really should be there that next day but "its ok if he cant do it" since they already told him he had off. Of course this is a brand NEW F*CKING JOB so how do I tell him not to stay and just not do the Xmas train.
He says well cant we just switch the tickets? UM yeah ok bc the XMAs train that sells out in AUGUST is just so easy to switch.
Going alone with the two kids is not an option bc I wont drive from LI to CT alone. Am I missing out on so much by us not going? My 2.5 year old already knows we are going? Hopefully she will forget? I am just so f*cking pissed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

awe, that is so tough. Maybe see on a FB group if anyone can switch tickets? Your town, or even their fb page. You can also try calling. Weekday shows I don't think sold out last year until very close to each date. MAybe they can switch it

You could see if there is anything left - maybe after christmas - and try to sell your tickets. If he told them when starting the job he needed off that day, and then they scheduled this when they knew he was off...maybe it's ok for him to still take off? I would let him decide if he needs to work or not.

I am going to talk to him later. I feel bad bc I do want him to make a good impression and I dont want this to stop that from happening. I am just so disappointed bc I really want him there with us.

Can you take someone else with you to help out if he can't go?

I agree...I know you don't want to disappoint your kids but in the long run your husband doing well at his job is much more important.

I personally would just go alone. I travel with my 2 kids alone all the time. CT isn't very far from LI

I would just suck it up and go alone. If it wasn't a new job I'd make him go but since it's new I'd just go it alone.

This. I would not make him feel guilty for going to work, he has no choice.

This falls into the "Life sometimes doesn't work out' category. Take a deep breath, in a year or 2 this won't even be on your radar of memories.

I am an anxious driver if driving really long distances alone with my kids so I completely understand that not being an option. If another adult is with me I am fine. I would definitely see if your mom can go with you. If not see if you can switch tickets with someone on one of those FB groups as someone else mentioned or sell the tickets and try again next year.

I agree. I get anxiety driving anywhere off of long island. I won't do it. Even being a passenger in the car the other day, coming off the GWB and all the traffic and people going in all directions, and I know I'd be lost, I have zero clue where I am going, or someone would hit me- the lanes are so narrow- I was having a hard time just being in the car in the passenger seat. I could never drive it myself. It's bad

Either go alone or ask your mom. I wouldn't think twice about your husband having to be at work. That's priority right now.

Talk Me Off a Ledge Before I Kill My Husband - RE Christmas Train
that stinks!!!! BUT before you freak out TOO much more-- try calling the train and just seeing if they have anything for a different night. You never know! so many train places have the christmas train stuff- so maybe it didn't quite sell out yet for all the dates. Check with them first. Then maybe ask around ( on your FB, your towns FB page, wherever to see if somebody has tickets they could switch with you. IF that doesn't work out, just see if your mom or somebody can go with you... i don't blame you for not wanting to go alone!! Good luck!!!

Talk Me Off a Ledge Before I Kill My Husband - RE Christmas Train
I just wanted to update bc everyone has been so kind. First of all my mom said she would go. Then, a lovely friend on here from CT offered to help me sell or swap them on her CT message board. After telling my husband, and insisting he go do his job that we would figure it out his new boss insisted that no he should go with his family bc he was promised the day off and its definitely not a big deal to miss the last day of the trip. So not sure what we will end up doing just yet but I thank everyone for the excellent advice!!!
