Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

I wrapped Ava's gifts last night, and now I'm in a panic that we didn't get her enough. My husband thinks I'm crazy, as she is getting a ton of stuff from other people, too, but I feel like there just isn't enough. I am a psycho with this stuff, it's been passed down from my mom, I can't help itChat Icon We never got anything all year long, but were spoiled to death on Christmas, and that's really how we treat Ava, she never gets any toys or anything during the year other than on her birthday, so I really wanted to make Christmas huge for her, but I feel like I failed this year. Someone tell me to get over myself, please! She will want for nothing this year, so please tell me to stop!!!

Stop panicking! I am doing this too (a trait passed on from my mother). Shes going to have so much stuff that she wont know what to play with first so adding more isnt going to make or break her Christmas!

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

I do this for everyone at birthdays and christmas as well!!! It is so tempting to run out to the store just to pick up "a few more things" even if it's for the stockings (which by the way are packed). I know what you are going through and I'm sure you have plenty for Ava!
Toss the car keys somewhere so you can't run out of the house so easily!

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

I am in the same boat!

We don't give throughout year, just a freaking crazy christmas morning.

my dh is itching at the bit to get him a powerwheels today...but I think next year will be better.

I have a coupon for toy store burning a hole in my pocket...
I think he needs tinker toys.Chat Icon but we agreed he was done...

It helps me to think that I will start my Christmas closet earlier...like next week for next year.

Forget arts and crafts...I have to stay out of Michaels...I can go crazy in the kid's isle

Oh I can talk you down, since I have to do this to DH every single day! lol.

I'm sure there is more than enough for your DD, and everyone else is also going to spoil her as well! You don't want to have two of something because then you get to sit in wonderfully long lines after the holidays. Also the more you buy, the less space you will have!

I feel the same way---but then I have to stop---they will get so much from others it would be stupid for us to buy more

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

Ok, I think it's passed. I'm slowly calming downChat Icon This all started last night when I realized that Target never sent me one of her gifts, which was this awesome bed tent, and that was one of her bigger gifts. And I started to feel terrible. But they don't sell it in stores, so it's not like I really CAN go get it. So maybe it was the shopping gods intervening with my addiction to buying her Christmas presentsChat Icon

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

Why don't you see what she gets, and then look for something else to "spoil" her, if you want to do something more? Like maybe a little christmas experience or something like that-- like a trip to the American Girl store, or hot chocolate at Serendipity after seeing the tree, going to Dylan's and letting her pick out whatever she wants, etc.-- something like that.

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

I hear you...I couldn't sleep Monday night b/c I was thinking that I didn't get DD enough toys for Christmas...DD put me back into reality by assuring me that she was fine, didn't need anything else and would be spoiled by others.

Then I started dragging all the gifts out of the basement to wrap them, and I realized I have MORE than enough for her Chat Icon

You have years until she's counting presents & comparing last year's numbers - and talking about what she didn't get.

Don't stress about it this year. I'm sure she will be thrilled!

OMG I was thinking the same thing last night...worried we didn't buy DD enough gifts. DH told me to relax between all she already has and what she's going to get from us and everyone else she will be more than happy.

I feel the same way too!!! Plus, whenever anyone asks DD what she asked Santa for, she replies "Buzz Lightyear." I didn't get her any Buzz Lightyear, and I feel like she's going to be disappointed on Christmas morning! DH disagrees!! I am fighting the urge to run to Target and get her Buzz!

We're the same way so I totally get it but I'm sure you have plenty. You can always get some coloring books and new markers, pencils, crayons, etc as fillers.

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

I always panic last minute with EVERYONE and feel like I didn't get enough. I actually was just thinking of going to the Disney store today to get her something else... but I am stopping myself because seriously, they are just overwhelmed on Christmas morning anyway and end up only playing with one or two of their favorites. LOL

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

My dh is the one that does this every year. He needs to have tons of gifts under the tree. Honestly ive realized at least with my kids, that when they get so so much for christmas they are completely overwhelmed. Last year they were actually tired of opening gifts and ended up not playing with anything. Just staring at it all. LOL.

Just realized the previous poster wrote almost the same thing i did, LOL. gotta agree with her 100%.

ITA. My DS got the Fisher Price farm for his birthday a month ago and I think he plays with the box for it now more than he plays with the actual farm. Chat Icon

I agree with Barb. I think she's too young still to realize how many things she has received.

I feel the same way, I keep reminding myself that he is going to get SO much stuff from my parents and family it is going to be insane.

My MIL and SIL send gifts, but I put them away so he doesn't seem them, last year, I had them out so it looked like more...and last year we did Christmas Eve with my parents so we had a ton of stuff here already on Christmas Day.

This year, it will be a madhouse ON ChristmasChat Icon

I did the same thing last week! I laid out all the toys and it just didn't seem like enough- even though we spent a ton! I ended up getting more on Amazon!

Re: Please talk me off the Christmas toy ledge....

It is so hard not to go crazy....This is the first year that Nate has been able to communicate his 'list'. I think we got everything off the list and then some. I'm trying not to go crazy because last year we did and they didn't even play with everything. We ended up putting a lot of stuff in a closet, gave some for their b-day and just gave the rest to Toys for Tots last week.

I was feeling the same way this morning and my DH reminded me that 1 billion people in this world will be hungry on Christmas, and 16,000 children will die of hunger related issues. So hard to wrap my mind around, and not such a Merry thought but it puts things into perspective. Our kids are blessed.

Dh is a tireless advocate giving his $$ and time to those in need...I need to do more myself.

I always feel the same way. I look at everything under the tree & feel like she didn't get enough. Then once it's all over & we have stacks of toys that we can't find a place for I end up realizing that I was crazy.
