I REALLY DISLIKE real estate agents!!! yes again
they drag their ass, or maybe they're busy picking their ass I dont know. I do all the work finding a new place, and if the deal goes through I still have to hand over a broker fee.
For what!!!!!!!
People say lawyers a bottom feeders (sorry to our LIfmail atty) but I think real estate agents are!!!!!!
added: to clarify This is for an apt, not buying a house at this time

I usually think that all professions have a few bad apples but this is a whole different beast. I have stories like you wouldn't believe from when I was trying to sell and then later buy. It was a horror and the way they treat each other is equally terrible. My listing was expiring and I had at least 4 agents from the same office as my realtor come and try to steal the listing from her. She was an unethical POS herself but I really couldn't believe how they were like sharks circling to get my listing from under her. I do closings -not regularly but probably a dozen or so a year-and on several occasions the realtors have been terrific but usually they are alarmists driving everyone nuts. But everyone has a right to earn a living

I have to totally agree with you. I find they have no morals and no conscious. There should be more laws to protect buyers and sellers.

I REALLY DISLIKE real estate agents!!! yes again
I can personally speak for one of the agents who is a vendor on here, Christine Braun and she is amazing. Goes above and beyond, works so hard for her clients and is a straight shooter. Definitely not in it for her commission. She often told me I was interested in a house that was a bad idea lol Even thought she could just let me buy something that would have been a mistake.
Beth Lowe is another vendor on here and I know many people who also had wonderful experiences.
Perhaps you should reach out to real estate agents that come recommended (assuming you didnt before).

When we were looking to rent an apt, we didn't use an agent at all. And when we bought our house, we did it by ourselves too. No agent needed! Why do you need an agent to rent an apt?

because finding an apt without one is hard. Most homeowner want to use an agent. If I find one without I would love it. Almost all listings are agent lisitings.

Beth is awesome. We walked into so many houses where she was like "yeah, no. you're not buying this. this is a dump." Definitely very honest!

Yes, I have encountered some super shady realtors. But I have met some wonderful ones.
We used one to buy/sell our two homes and a commercial real estate property. She is absolutely wonderful. Ethical, responsive, smart, helpful, goes above and beyond like you wouldn't believe.

If an apartment is listed in a realty, you have to pay the real estate fee. Many landlords list their apartments with realtors. It's good in one way because you know they are legal then but..
I do think it totally sucks for renters to have to shell out first months rent, security and the fee (which is typically equal to one months rent). Not easy for renters and the transaction is usually smooth and simple when renting (not like purchasing a home) so I can understand being annoyed at wondering what you're even paying for. I know agents take time out of their day to show rentals and stuff and advertise them on MLs though.
It makes more sense to me that the landlord absorbs the fee but I don't make the rules.
OP, I would recommend looking on Craigslist or your local pennysaver or one of the rental groups on Facebook. :)
I would also agree that the two agents here are very good.

Since she is renting, the renter usually pays the broker a fee that is equivalent to one month's rent.

I totally agree. We used Christine to buy our house and she was amazing. Felt like we were working with a friend, not an agent. We plan to use her again when we sell this house and buy our next. I wouldn't go back to someone who wasn't great.
You may disklike your agent, but there are some great ones out there, too.

Craigslist. There's an option to click on for non-brokers. Pennysaver. Local Facebook groups.

I look all the time. I am not looking to move far into suffolk I take the train to work and need access to the LIRR

I totally agree. We used Christine to buy our house and she was amazing. Felt like we were working with a friend, not an agent. We plan to use her again when we sell this house and buy our next. I wouldn't go back to someone who wasn't great.
You may disklike your agent, but there are some great ones out there, too.
I haven't sold my house but Christine was very helpful in helping me find comps in the area when I was thinking of refinancing, but wasn't sure if I could meet the 20% equity needed in order to avoid PMI. She gave me a list of comps in the area and asked for nothing in return. For someone to go out of her way to help someone without getting anything out of it, really says a lot about her character.
