Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
For those that said they would ideally like to or already do get up early, or go to bed late, what do you do during those hours? Like the people that said their ideal time is waking at 4 or 5 am or those going to bed at 1 am.... I imagine the rest of the house is sleeping so you have some time to yourself. How do you occupy it? I know some people are getting ready for work at that time but they're not up at those hours voluntarily because it's ideal for them.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
If I'm up early, it's because I'm going to the gym.
Every once in awhile, I'll get up early and be out of the house by 7:30 to run an errand before work.
I'm not someone that stays up late being productive. I used to be that way, but not anymore.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
I get up at 5:25. Feed the cat, make my coffee, watch a bit of the news. I'll read e-mails, and do things around the house, finish cleaning my kitchen if I didn't do it the night before, pick up around the house, file away paperwork, do a little ironing if needed. Every day I prepare my breakfast and lunch to take to work. About 6:20 I start getting myself ready for work, out the door by 7am.
I'm tired when I get home at night. By the time I cook dinner, clean up, give the cat and DH some attention and try to watch a little tv or read to unwind, it's time for me to go to bed at 9:30-ish.
eta : Sucks getting old. I wish I had the energy I did 25 years ago. I also wish I had the oomph to go to the gym or at least walk around the neighborhood in the morning, but there is always something that has to be done.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
I love staying up late, the house is quiet and I can focus on the things I want to do without interruption. I clean, decorate for the holidays, try out a new recipe, catch up on my shows, read, etc. Sometimes I just relax on the couch and do nothing at all. I'm a total night owl.

Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
If I get up at 5:30, that gives me just enough time to get me and DS ready and out of the house by 6:50.
If I wake up at 4:45/5, I will do a 30 minute BBG circuit workout.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
I am not productive when I am staying up late. It's more like watching a movie on the couch, surfing the net on my phone, vegeing out.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
I set my alarm for 5 but most days I'm up before my alarm. I take a shower as soon as I get up. Than I sit at my vanity and do my makeup. It's one of my favorite parts of my day. I hate rushing with my makeup so I take about 15-20 mins. After that dh is up. I spend a few minutes with him. I get breakfast ready wake the kids up at 6:30. While they eat I make beds and throw laundry in, clean up the kitchen. By 7:15 kids are showing and by 8 everyone is dressed and we have a 1/2 hour together before we have to leave for school. I like my mornings built in with extra time so I can spend time with my kids before school. I like to be early. My biggest stress and pet peeve is being late.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
I have always been a morning person. Even as a teenager.
I get up early and workout/run most days, or I use the time to catch up on life stuff that I can't do while the kids are awake. I am not productive after 10pm.

Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
I am up early because I have to get a train to work so my time is showering etc. I do budget 20 mins in that time though to watch the news in the morning. I like to see whats happening and also check weather and train delays.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
i LOVE getting up early, and having every one else still sleeping. it's heaven.
i make a cup of coffee, bring out whatever i'm crafting, and throw something on the tv... usually a documentary, a historical movie, or a chick flick... something no one else wants to watch with me.
when the weather is to my liking... i love to go out nice and early to yard sales and be one of the first customers.
yes, i'm very boring, but it makes my heart sing.

I'm a night owl who struggles with getting up in the morning. But I have to say, you make mornings sound so therapeutic and relaxing! Your posts can really sell mornings lol too bad I will never be a morning person.

LOL me too. But you can do the same thing late at night. Maybe skip the coffee or make it decaf. But a house at midnight with everyone sleeping and a Lifetime movie that nobody else would watch with me ,is pretty soothing too!

I love staying up late to watch old reruns or movies, but being up early is definitely a different feeling than being up late (from the few times I've had to be up). It's hard to describe. It's almost like a more optimistic feeling overall, like you can conquer the shit out of that day lol. At least for me this is how it feels. Physically getting up and leaving my warm bed is the hard part but once I'm showered I'm human again so I don't mind being up. In theory I like the sound of being an early riser, but I love my bed too much lol. (I'm referring to being up early in general, not because you have to get ready for work and start the daily grind. That feeling just makes me want to ball up and cry).

Totally agree! I LOVE getting up early but it just doesn't happen often because I stay up binging a show when I regain control of the remote!
Whenever I sign up for an early race, I always curse my alarm and myself and struggle to wake up but then when I'm out early on a weekend and the streets are still quiet, I feel so positive and like I accomplish anything.

Re: Spinoff to the spinoff to waking early
Up at 5am, drink coffee and off to the gym for a quick cardio. Home by 6:30am, shower and make breakfast for all of us. Kids are up by 6:45am. Get them ready and out the door by 7:45am. Get home around 5:45pm, cook, check hw, shower the kids, clean the house, prepare the girls to bed at 8pm and by 8:30pm I'm exhausted. I try to get to bed by 9-10pm. Anything after that will destroy my morning routine. I'm a morning person.

I am up by 5 am most mornings. I shower. I blow dry my hai now since it is cold. I will read emails for 5 to 10 minutes. Maybe watch 15 minutes of news or a dveed show. Make coffee, pack or eat my breakfast, pack lunch, and snacks. Walk the dog. Out the door no later than 6. Then errands this week was post office and gas station before work. I try to be at work by 6:30 to prep my work plan.
