Waking up too early? Advice?
I am actually posting for a friend who is a having a really hard time. Her son is waking up between 4:30 and 5am everyday. SHe has tried letting him CIO in the am but hasn't had any luck. He is def still tired because if she takes him in her bed he'll go back to sleep for a few more hours. When she does this however, she cannot fall back asleep. What do you think she should do? She is beyond exhausted. Oh FYI her DS is 16 months.

has she tried putting him to bed earlier?
My DS was a 5am riser FOREVER. I would literally close him off in the living room and doze off on the couch while he watched TV. He was just an early riser and had to outgrow it.

Yea she did, but he has that internal alarm thing going! No matter what time he goes to bed (which he does with no problems!)

DS was doing the EXACT thing at that age.....he has since outgrown it for the most part.
He now wakes closer to 6:45 most mornings 9give or take 15 minutes either way!
We actually started an earlier bedtime till he out grew it.
He needed 10 hours of sleep....so for a few weeks bedtime was 7:15pm. When he woke at 5am or so....one of us got up with him.....we started the day....bottle & played in the livingroom till the other had to wake up.
It worked itself out & now bedtime is 8:30ish with wake time 6:30ish.

My son tried this..and I just ignored him..he played/talked in his crib then went back to bed until his normal wake up of 8:45.
It was a phase for about 4/5 days.

My DS is 16 months and forever has been an early riser b/t 4 and 6. He will scream scream scream so I can't even leave him in the crib. He also doesn't really take naps at home and is rarely cranky (in fact he is more cranky when he gets more sleep! ) I figure some people are early risers. He goes to bed b/t 7:30 and 8 so he gets 8 hours of sleep a night. He has never slept later so I really don't know a difference. However, I can say that I do go to bed very early so I can be up with him in the early am LOL

How long are his naps? DS is a long napper (he'd go 3-4 hrs if we let him) but then he gets up at 5:30am. When we cut his naps to 2 hrs, it makes him wake at a more reasonable time.
