See my DD's bday is New Years Eve. So we usually do it small for xmas and go crazy on her Bday because a lot of relatives say bc they got her an xmas gift she doesnt get a bday gift so it balances out.

As someone with a January birthday and a child with a December birthday I hope you give those people a nice middle finger on their birthdays.

How many Bday presents for 4 year old from parents?
We typically get DS and DD a few gifts, but they are not expensive items. We try to keep it in the $125 range total. We don't do big parties.
DS just had his very first party this year with school friends, so we did not give him a gift since it costs us $$. Every other year it has only been cake with our moms and my siblings.
DD is a Christmas Eve baby and is turning 3. She had one party - her 1st a few days before Christmas. We did not get her anything. We just celebrate with a cake at my families house when desserts come out. My cousins do all get her gifts, so its a mini party within a party .

Wow, I guess we went "overboard" for our dds 4th bday. We got her about 10 gifts, totalling about $150, nothing more than $20, and many less than $10. She just loves getting excited for her bday and opening presents, and we love trying to make her day special for her. We also had a party for her. She got gifts from her party, of course, but we like to pick out things for her as well that we know she wants or would like. I thought that's was the norm though, too. Didn't know it was more common to give 1 gift, or no gift!
I'm with you. I mean maybe when she is older but at 5 and 6 she was SO into presents. Opening them, getting excited about every one of them, playing with everything afterwards. She doesn't get the- well you are having an expensive party so.... Or well you will get a gift from grandma and aunt so and so so... And as far as experiences go- I can't imagine her getting excited about a pass to the zoo or the aquarium. I mean yeah when we take her there she loves it- but the concept of an "experience" gift is kind of lost on her at this age. When she gets older, it will be different.

How many Bday presents for 4 year old from parents?
DS birthday is in 2 weeks. so obviously christmas is right around the corner, too. We're having a "friends" party for him, with 21 kids... so thats his main gift HAHA a fun day with all his friends plus, he'll get tons of stuff from them, i'm sure. i'll probably take him to toys r us on his birthday and let him pick out something smallish from us. i don't go nuts. my house is overrun with toys- he's the only kid on both sides of the family so he's gets all kinds of stuff- new and hand-me-down. AND he hardly plays with any of it!!! HAHAHA he's just not a "toy" kid.... in fact, i almost put "no gifts'" on his bday party invites, but decided that people wouldn't lsten to that anyway, because part of being a kid is getting a pile of gifts on your birthday maybe when he's older, we'll collect for toys for tots or something. even for christmas, i'm not gonna go nuts this year. He's turning 6, and really wants that Cozmo Robot thing... thats $180- so i figure we'll get him that, and one or 2 small things.
