Do you think $200 per person for a day trip is kind of excessive to spend for a friend's 30th? I was just invited to one, a friend of a friend is planning it and a little taken back at the cost. It includes lunch, limo, and two vineyards. If I spend $200 on all my friends' 30th birthdays I'd need a second job lolololol!

For a limo/vineyard day it sounds right but I personally think those type of birthdays are such an imposition on people. Unless it was a super close friend and I had the spare cash I would probably decline.

All this.

I would be mortified to ask my friends to spend that much. I wouldn't enjoy myself from the guilt.

YUP! All of this. While it sounds about right for the day, that's a lot. And I agree, unless a close friend or close family member, I'd probably decline.

Ok, I thought so but just wanted some validation. Money aside, I really can't swing it. I'm due at the end of the month and just don't see myself being fully up for such an event 4 weeks after birth. I do feel bad because it's one of my best friends but I know she'll understand.

I think it's expensive, and I could never do something that costs so much money. But she may not understand. Is she married or does she have kids? I could see if someone hasn't really done these things in their life how they may want to celebrate a big birthday like that. Not that I agree with it, but I can understand.

I guess I disagree. It's sort of paying for the experience and the memories. However not everyone can afford that or wants to. Is there a way you can meet them out there and take your own car?

Yeah she has kids and is a very "reasonable" / "normal" person. I'm not really worried about it putting strain on our relationship. To be honest, she's not planning it so I'm not even sure she is aware of the costs.

The money really isn't stopping me, I'll have a 4 week old at the time so that's my real reason for not going. I was just curious if people thought spending $200+ for a birthday is a bit much. Normally, the 30ths and adult parties I attend are paid for by the host or are more casual dinners, drinks at a bar, happy hours, etc.

Oh I totally missed that part. If you have a 4 week old I think that's a great excuse to not go if you don't feel like it and I wouldn't blame you one bit. At 4 weeks pp I was still out of it and my privates still hurt a little lol.

My friend did this, but it was a gift from her husband and parents. They paid for our day out (which was incredibly generous of them). I wouldn't be able to afford it either.

Re: Friends 30th

I think it is a lot to ask for others to celebrate your birthday. If it is a special friend, I like the plan, have the money, and the circumstances work, I'd do it. Otherwise I'd pass.

It's a lot. I'd go, but not if I had a 4 week old at home.

Actually, who am I kidding, I needed wine more than ever when I had a 4 week old at home.

Re: Friends 30th

I personally would not want to take a limo to a vineyard for $200. Many of my friends do spa/brunch birthday celebrations and that costs $200+. It totally depends on what you like to do....

I don't think it's a lot of $$ for the actual trip/experience, but it's a lot of money to expect your friends to lay out for your birthday - ridiculous in my opinion for any adult to expect that from their friends. If a group of friends decides, "hey, lets do this together" and anyone who want to do it - great. But to say, "hey, it'll cost $200 to celebrate X's birthday" - nope. That's pretty ballsy
