Reminder: Don't forget to vote for local officials as well

There has been two incidences of illegal dumping at two parks on Long Island (and if you don't think this concerns you because you do not live in the towns it occurred in, it still affects the environment/drinking water).

Green Acres Mall is getting a tax break and it is being passed on to the residents.

This has just been in the past week (with the exception of one of the toxic waste at a park stories).

We complain SO MUCH on this forum about the COL here.

Please, if you don't plan to vote for president, vote for your local officials. Newsday always has a rundown of who they are and what they stand for. Then you Google their names and see if they have done anything you don't agree with.

I find it fascinating that we do not have the same outrage and passion for the race for our local politicians as we do for President. These are the people that can essentially build a highway through your living room if they wanted to do so.

Trump supporters complain that Hillary has been in politics for decades, but it's happening right here as well. Just to give an example, I remember writing Angie Carpenter a letter in the fifth grade. She is now Islip Town Supervisor. I've been out of the fifth grade for more than twenty years at least.

I'm so tired of being complacent. Last year, I started making the extra effort to be an informed voter. There is so much corruption in our local government.

I'll get off my Chat Icon now.

Yes! I've been following my local candidates. I think my current US congressman is horrendous and I will absolutely be voting for his opponent. Same for my districts state senator.

In regards to your point about Angie Caroenter being in office for more than 20 years, why don't all elected positions have term limits??

Voting in your local elections is even MORE important than president. For starters, your vote ACTUALLY counts. No electoral college on the local level. And this is the dead weight that sits there for decades, often running unopposed, squandering our tax dollars while we hate on the more public face for failing us.

She hasn't held this particular position for 20 years, but held her previous position for about that.

Maybe someone else can answer regarding certain positions and term limits, as I am not familiar as to why some have it and others don't.

ETA: County legislator for 13 years. Treasurer for three. Islip Town Supervisor since 2009.

TOB needs to get rid of venditto but people are too afraid to vote him out. Thats why there is so much corruption, too many people stay in power
