I find it strange that it seems that people bring up homeless people and vets when talking about the refugee argument. I wonder how much these people do for the homeless and vets when the refugee discussion isn't around. It's a very convienent argument that doesn't really work in my opinion. You might want to also check how Congress voted on several bills for vets (didn't pass) before using the "let's help homeless vets first" line.

It is not a choice between the two. To say that is unfair and it is creating a distorted view of the numbers and facts. BUt I guess that's how FB memes work.

The US can do both. The number of homeless vets has decreased under Obama. If you actually take a look at the budget, you would see the percentages for taking in Syrian vets to be low and it is doable. They are not taking the funds from the vets.

So why don't these people just admit they don't want to help at all?

ETA: I see the poster has edited their post to what this is responding to.

Re: VP Debate

Can't help but comment---throwing out someone's personal trauma in the middle of a debate is way below the belt.

And if life begins at conception, then does that mean you're opposed to ivf/stem cell research, etc?

I am genuinely interested.

Re: VP Debate

What am I even reading??? Can't you make your point without dragging another poster's family into whatever point it is you were trying to make? And you continue to defend your stance. It is NEVER OK to bring someone's personal struggles and that OF THEIR CHILD'S into a discussion on politics, and most definitely it is NEVER OK to use it as a means to try to twist their beliefs. I can't even believe what I'm reading! Elizarags has every right to her opinion as anyone else does to theirs REGARDLESS of what she's been through! She should be admired for her strength and perseverance, not belittled or judged for her beliefs, which by the way MANY OF US share! Pro-CHOICE is NOT ANTI-LIFE, no matter how much conservative media tries to spin it! I'm really sorry to Elizarags, please ignore this crap. It doesn't even make sense, one thing has NOTHING to do with the other. Whatever point the poster was trying to make is lost in this nonsense. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have not said a ton on these boards in many, many years, but I think that is a horrible thing to say to Elizarags about her daughter and her beliefs.
And yes, I too lived through a nightmare with my child.

Thank you for your post. It was a horrible thing to say to someone.

Agreed.
And I am slightly confused as to how the nightmare she went through with her DD would lead to her having to believe life begins at conception?
What does one have to do with the other?

Nothing. One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. It didn't even make any sense. So, either it was a personal dig, or this poster has no clue what point they were even trying to make and was just rambling.

I'm probably going to regret even jumping in on this.. but i THINK JLM was oddly making a correlation to the fact that because Elizarags went through so much with her DD and fought so hard for her, that she would have some sort of 'higher' regard for life, and therefore understand or sympathize better with someone who does believe that life begins at conception. And that somehow they are two related kinds of causes.. believing that the collections of cells that make up a fetus are the same as a living breathing child.
or something like that Chat Icon Chat Icon

eta: by the way, i DO NOT share that belief at all. I was just trying to shed light on the weird connection that JLM was makig

Yeah I get it, but it's flawed logic.
It's like saying someone who took years to get pregnant loves their child more than someone who got pregnant on the first try.

I don't think I'm criticizing you. I do apologize and I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings.

I just don't think this is an opinion. There are facts to back this up.

I'm just saying that I think the world needs to really look at what's going on in Syria. It's the worst crisis since WWII and it seems that no one cares.
