What time to leave LI
We are heading to MA on Thurs, coming from Nassau... what time would you leave to avoid rush hour traffic? We plan on stopping at an amusement park that opens at 10 in MA.

What time to leave LI
The earlier the better. How many hours will it take without traffic to get there?
I would leave at 5am and get through NY and stop for breakfast.

Agree with PP
Our new thing- for any trip off LI on a weekday- is to leave at 5 am or 515 the latest.
You need to be over the bridges by 6 am or you are screwed.
Get their early and have a nice breakfast

When we go to Cape Cod, we leave really early like 5:30am or at 9:30am to avoid traffic.

I think you can leave later from a traffic perspective, not sure how long it takes to get where you're going. Really depends on where you're coming from. I'm in Nassau, south shore. I used to have a client in CT that I would travel to at times.
if I left by 630-645 I didn't hit much traffic at all and got off the island pretty easily. I could get to the client site in Norwalk by 8-815.
Generally didn't hit traffic going there in the summer, but normally during the year would hit traffic if I left at 7 or later

Yeah true, I'm coming for eastern long island, so I'm further.

traffic on the lie heading west builds up at 6:45 by exit 32 and the cross island is a sh!t show by 7 am.
leave at 5:30 for sure

We left at 4:45 last Friday to head to SC. It was the best drive ever. We hit no traffic and flew out of NY.

It truly is such a pleasure when you leave LI at the asscrack of dawn.
What a difference in the stress level of the ride.

What time to leave LI
If you download the latest version of waze it let's you plan a drive and estimates what time you should leave to get to your destination at a certain time. It's usually petty accurate and you can see how big a difference it would make to leave at different times. We just went to sesame and I wanted to leave by 7 but we ran almost a half hour late and it was miserable!
