Did anyone start milk before 1 year?

My sister in law and I use the same ped.. I know that per our doc, she started my niece on milk at 10 or 11 months. She slowly transitioned. She was on formula prior.

Like my niece, my dd eats cheese and yogurt daily and tolerates it very well. But my dd is breastfed.

Anyone have experience with this? I'll probably call the doc anyway, but I don't see him until August 8th to discuss it.

Nope. We started the transition the week before her first birthday. She had a rough adjustment to it- she became very constipated, which was strange bc she never had a problem with breast milk or formula. We slowed down the transition, added a bit of prune juice, and after about a month, she was completely on milk, no prune juice required. It's been about 14-15 months and she hasn't had an issue since.

I started DS at week shy of 11 months. He started refusing to drink his formula. And he wasn't drinking much water either and was becoming dehydrated. When I called the Ped, she said since he tolerates yogurt and cheese well, to start the transition. As soon as i started with regular milk, he started drinking it more. Now he is a week away from his birthday and on 100% whole milk with no issues.

I started DD on milk at 11 months, she did great. I will do the same for DS.

while the rec is a year, nothing special happens at exactly at a year so if you want to do it a bit earlier because it fits into your life then I'd do it.

We did it at 10 months. I EBF and I'm a teacher, at 8 months I had summer break. I continued to BF, but stopped pumping. When I went back to work at 10 months, my pump broke. I refused to get another so while I BF at night and weekends he began milk during the day. We originally started with rice milk, but switched to cows after a week. I don't think we did a slow transition. I did have some pumped milk, but not much. He had had lots of yogurt before this.

I am pretty sure I started cow's milk with dd at 11 months because I was SO done with pumping at work. So she got cow's milk at daycare while I was away form her and I continued to nurse her when I was with her until she was about 18 months old.

1 year isn't a magical day when the body can digest milk. We started transitioning both kids just before a year because I was just "done" buying formula. A little before or a little after is fine. And if you want to continue BFing, then you can do that, too.

As other posters have said there is nothing magic that happens at 12 months.

However you shouldn't make the switch unless your child is eating a full balanced diet of fruit, veggie, protein, etc. Formula and breast milk is a full source of nutrition...milk is just a drink. Not a meal.

I started my DD at 11 months because she was on Alimentum, which I bought by the case because it was cheaper. I ran out of formula and refused to pay full price for one or two cans so I weaned her onto milk. She's 8 now, no issues.

Thank you all!! I still plan on nursing/pumping but not nearly as much.

And luckily she eats everything, so she is getting a well balanced diet.

The ped gave me the green light to start whole milk at 9 1/2 months. I had asked the ped what formula I should use in case my supply started to tank. He told me not to bother and to give DS whole milk. DS was already eating a yogurt everyday, so the ped wasn't too concerned about milk. Ironically, my supply is starting to decrease, but so is DS's intake of pumped milk. My plan is to mix whole milk and frozen milk if I can't keep up with him. I have a couple hundred ounces of frozen milk in the deep freeze that DS won't touch unless it's mixed in with baby cereal. I'm hoping he'll drink it if it's mixed with regular milk.

We transitioned DD at around 10 months to whole milk. She had been on formula prior. We were flying with her and going on a trip and I didn't want to deal with formula and making bottles. We did 1oz each day mixed with her formula (decreasing the formula the amount of milk added), until she was completely on whole milk. Had no problems at all. Just a heads up, it is normal for poop to change during and after the change -- color, consistency, frequency, and odor.
