Introducing table food

DS2 is 8 months old and I feel like I'm going so slow with him compared to DS1 on the table food! I haven't really given him anything yet (he eats purees, yogurt) except puffs, which he has just started taking better without gagging.

I don't know why I'm so afraid to give him more, esp. since this is my second time around! So help me get over the hump and please share your favorite "first table foods" so I can start working on the transition. (I think all of my brain cells have been zapped and I can't remember what I did the first time.)

DS1 was on all table food by like 10 months, so while I understand each child is different and has different needs and milestones, I think it could be me who is the one slowing down this process. TIA!!!

Just went through the same thing with DD. Everything I tried with her, even puffs, she gagged on... Finally at 10 months she doesn't choke on food I give her (for the most part). The only thing that helped was just keep trying.. daycare actually helped out a lot, they first gave her little tiny pieces of pancakes

ETA you could start with pancakes, egg, meatballs, things that are relatively soft.

We are in the same boat missy!
DS1 was eating EVERYTHING at 9.5 months, meatloaf, veggies, eggs, pancakes like EVERYTHING (until he had the stomach Virus a month after and got picky) and DS2 gags or even pukes on anything solid. Over the last month he finally loves puffs, yogurt melts and cheerios. I tried real banana 2 times, last week he puked up his whole breakfast cause of the banana. I have tried cous cous, pastina, he gags, chokes and spits it out. I am going crazy!

The dr told us to just keep trying whatever we eat. So as long as it is something he can have i am trying to do that.... but still he is not very receptive. I really hope this changes soon!

What is up with son number 2's!!!!! haha

I had a harder time with baby number 2 too.

He did better with chunky baby food. I added lentils, beans, eggs, pasta, other soft things to his baby food.

Also the teething biscuits.

Then we started on rice, noodles, soups (split pea, lentil), etc.

DS is 9 mos tomorrow and we are taking it slow too. He wants nothing to do with stage 3 purees. They are chunky, he gags, spits it out. Same with puffs. I know it takes time. My older DD was the exact same way. Frustrating for us but we need patience and to keep trying.

A lot (most?) people skip stage 3 because it's strange to mix consistencies. Most babies do better going straight to crunchy or soft solids.
