Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
Is it a regular twin mattress? If a smaller bed I would not invest in that at all. I would be scared with the height issue especially as a first bed.

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
Thanks everyone, I decided to order it. You're only a kid once and my DD will LOVE this. It's not as tall as it looks in the picture and the mattress will also not be as thick, so there will be much more of a lip to the rail. Once I measured it out, I felt much more comfortable with it.
I think she will do fine, she has slept in a bunk before while we were on vacation. I really don't think she will try to get out on her own until I give her the green light, she's really good about that kind of stuff.
If she doesn't seem ready for it after it arrives, we will make her a little toddler bed in the house part until she is ready for the bunk. I'm not going to buy her a different bed frame now and then buy this down the road, it's now or never!
Thanks again for all your input.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest! I would actually start out that way until you are totally comfortable with her going up and down the ladder. It's a gorgeous bed and she will get many years of use out of it. Glad you went for it!

I considered a bunk and decided against it after googling injury statistics. I have wild boys though. May feel different if I had one cautious child. I could just see my boy being crazy on it, kwim

Personally I would not be comfortable with the height at 3. Can it accommodate her crib mattress on the floor level as a toddler bed. If so you would be able to keep her there for another year or so before she moves up to the top

Super cute! Glad you ordered it! I think the pic makes it look wayyy higher than it is.
My DD has a junior loft bed with playhouse curtains on it, and now she is 9 and really wants a higher one. I should've bought the higher one from the startt!

My kids have a bunk bed & there is a safety sticker on the top bunk advising on the recommended age of 6 for the top bunk sleeper.
We waited until they were ready, and it just so happened to be right before their 6th birthday.

Totally not safe for a 3.5 year old, especially one that's only slept in a crib. I would keep her at the bottom with a toddler bed until she is 6. That's the recommended age for the top bunk.

I think it's a cool bed but I would NEVER put a child under 5-6 yrs old in a bed that high. I think a toddler is way too young for something like this. Sorry.
This! DD has a bunk bed, but it has enclosed stairs to the top and not a ladder (and she sleeps in the bottom). I wouldn't put her in a ladder only bunk bed until she is maybe 6. What if she has to pee in the middle of the night?
That being said , I love this bed.

Your child is way too young IMO to be in a bed so high. Not worth the risk.

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
We have a bunk bed and I'm pretty certain we had a kid in there at the age of 4...might have been younger. (After 4 kids, it's all a blur for me. ) For us it was for practicality. We needed space. We've never had any issues. My 2.5 yo loves to climb up to the top bunk to hang out, but she knows I'm to get her down. (It's just a matter of time before she knows how to climb down the ladder.)
I will say I hate changing the sheets. It's a workout and a half.
Oh, and don't get me started on cleanup if they get "sick." Needless to say, if I get any kind of inkling that DC on the top bunk is feeling under the weather, they are delegated to the bottom bed just in case. (And I have about a dozen waterproof underpads. )
