Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
I REALLY want to get this bed for my DD.
I know it will be a PIA to change the sheets and make the bed. I know she will grow out of it in a few years. I know it would be dangerous for her to get down by herself at night.
What if I said: I can deal with the headache of changing sheets and making the bed. I would be happy to donate it down the road when she outgrows it. I really, truly believe she would not attempt to get down on her own if I tell her it's not allowed (my DD is very cautious).
I am concerned that my DD will be afraid to sleep in it because of the height though. It doesn't seem to be the easiest transition from a crib. (My DD is 3.5, we've kept her in a crib a long time.)
All that being said, does anyone think this bed is a good idea? And what age do you think she will outgrow it by? Anyone have it? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Personally I wouldn't, because it does seem very high. I'd be afraid she accidentally rolled over the bar - that's a decent drop to the floor. IMHO I wouldn't get it. - it is cute though!

My dd (5) sleeps on the top of a bunk bed now, the mattress we got her is a bobopedic made for bunks so its much thinner than the one in the picture which creates a much larger barrier. I think its adorable and with a thinner mattress would totally buy it ( if I could afford it lol)!!

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
It's essentially a bunk bed, and there are thousands (or more) of those out there. I think she would use it for quite a few years. She may want to change the design once in a while, or the purpose (it could make a nice reading nook with a beanbag chair and a reading light). I had a bunk bed with my brother until I went away to college, so she could theoretically stay in it for 10+ years....

I love it. And I think she would get years and years of use out of it.

The one thing that caused me to think it over is the age. You mentioned transition from a crib, which makes me think this is a very young child. I will be getting bunk beds down the road for our boys but my oldest DS is 3 now and I wouldn't feel comfortable with him on a top bunk. Maybe at 4 and I think definitely at 5 but not now. Only you know your child though and I will admit, it's super cute. I just wish it were a bit lower unless the picture makes it look much taller than it is.

As above poster said your saying transition which makes me think young child. And you said cautious which makes me think the height might frighten her. Only YOU know your daughter. only YOU know what your comfortable with.
My dd is like yours cautious. I transitioned her a little after she turned 3. She loved it and did amazing.
The 1st 2 weeks she didnt realize she could get out on her own, but once she did it took about 1-2 months for her to not do it (And not because I asked her to stop) she just started to call out for me and stopped getting out on her own. ONLY if shes not feeling well or gets really scared does she come get me. FOR that AND for the possibility of falling out (it happened once to my dd and she freaked cause she was half asleep, she fell on carpet but OMG was it a loud thud. my heart stopped) She has guard rails on both sides of her platform bed (which I used a bunkie board to try to keep it as low as possible) For those 2 reasons I personally wouldnt feel comfortable with it. I would say for an older child yes but not a young child that will be transitioning to a bed for the 1st time. That in itself is initimidating to kids. And a big milestone for them. I think this may make it harder. And then what? Your stuck with a very expensive bed that she wont sleep in. =/ BUT again its your decision, your child and what your comfortable with this is just my 2 cents.
ETA: It seems also way too tempting for such a young child to want to get out of bed to play. I also cant imagine that every time she wakes and needs you, you have to climb up there to see if shes ok.

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
Sorry, but I'd be way too nervous to use that as a toddler's first bed. It's super cute, but I'd wait a few years. It's a twin bed, so she could use it basically til she moves out, lol.
ETA: aside from the fear of her falling out, I just think logistically, putting a toddler to bed in a high bunk would not really work out. Your bedtime routine could change, but what if she's sick? Scared? You'd have to climb up there to go to her, comfort her, take her temperature?

I love it! However, I would wait till she's maybe 5 or so. The height scares me also. I do love it though.

Thats too high for ME lol. My dd would be scared to climb up that then attempt to sleep in it. I will say I think its gorgeous. But I can only venture a guess how $$$$$ it is. I dont think its worth it, not practical at all. Jmo

I think its very cool. BUT I would never put a 3 year old in it. And would never put a child in it as their very first bed from a crib.

Changing the sheets alone would be enough to deter me from buying this. It looks very cute, but I'd be annoyed every time I had to change it!

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
I think it's a cool bed but I would NEVER put a child under 5-6 yrs old in a bed that high. I think a toddler is way too young for something like this. Sorry.

I've seen similar type set ups that aren't quite as high.
I wouldn't transition my 3.5 year old from a crib to the top of a bunk bed.
We have bunk beds for our boys but, didn't get them until after our oldest turned 5.

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
It's beautiful but not for a 3.5 yo. What about when she had to use the potty in the middle of the night? I would not be cool using a ladder in the dark in the middle of the night when she could be disoriented. Or when she's taken cold medicine and may be woozy etc. I got a bunk bed at 13 and still fell from the ladder once or twice. It's beautiful though!

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
It's adorable. If you cash to throw out & you dream about it... Go for it! Would last her til she was probably 6. But I have to say.... It's not practical at all. DD is 4 & wakes up to pee every once in a while now (she didn't when she was younger!). We had bunks growing up. BUT they quickly took them apart after we rolled out. If you have the space, get a small outdoor playhouse & set up indoors. Same effect & more practical.
But, goodness, I'm upset sometimes that I didn't buy my DS the $300 bed that looks like a pirate ship from little tykes. Would have lasted 1 year for interest.

i love it! But personally all the headaches that go along with it would deter me. Not only changing the sheets, but putting her to bed, and what if she needs to go to the potty in the middle of the night, etc.
I would consider it around age 5

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
It's adorable yes. But not for a 3.5 year old transitioning from a crib. The height is just WAY too much. My DD is 5 1/2 and I'd still be nervous about the height, but I'm just a bit over the top as a worrier. But I feel like 5 years old would be a good age for this...

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
The height would not work for me or DD! Maybe is she were older but then I don't know if she'd outgrow the use of the house...unless she used it for a book-nook for quiet reading? We saw a castle type one with a slide DD wanted She didn't get it!

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
what is the height? Is that a twin bed or a crib mattress?
nm, I looked up the dimensions.
Is this set up at the store? Maybe you can take your daughter there and put her on the bed to see how she reacts.

Re: Help convince me this isn't totally impractical! (Or is it?)
They don't recommend putting a child in a top bunk until age 6. That is a tall bunk bed. I would not feel comfortable with my child in that. If she climbed over the side, she would get hurt...
Maybe find something similar in a low loft...

My dd would plummet to the ground. She is not cautious though and would forger she was so high up if she woke up in the middle of the night. My 5 year old niece has something similar now that they went to a big girl bed from a toddler bed.

Although I love it, your DD is too young for a bed like that, especially going from a crib to that thing.
I think you should wait a few years.
