Is this a hemangioma?

Hi all, baby is 5 weeks today and we noticed about 2 weeks ago a red mark on her head that I don't remember from before. Do you think this is a hemangioma? Any ideas? If so, there is nothing to do or be concerned about right?

Putting pic in album

Thx!

Looks like it to me. Hemangioma is nothing to worry about at all!

Yes it is. It may be get bigger but it's not in the worst spot luckily. My DD had a few of them. None ever grew large though.

Re: Is this a hemangioma?

Yes, looks like a hemagioma. My DC has one too. Dr. said it is the best place for it to be because once the hair grows in, you will barely notice it. I think it stops growing by 1 year mark, then it shrinks and fades. My DC still has it but only we notice it.
We did take her to a dermatologist because it was really big and I was concerned (also people kept noticing it) but they said to just watch it.
I do know another child who had a very large one on his forehead by his hairline and he took medicine to have it shrink and then had plastic surgery.
I am so glad I waited and didn't do anything.
Feel free to FM me if you have any questions or want to chat.

No doctor but looks like it to me. I am prone to them and have a bunch that are small. Most go away on their own but can take a year. I had one on my face that was noticeable so I had it lazered for cosmetic reasons.

Just mentioning because if it is hermangioma, it's harmless, likely to go away or be unnoticeable under hair or absolute worst case, treatable pretty easily.

These are caused by sun/hormones/genetics. Just mentioning as DC could get more, especially with puberty. Most of mine are just like small freckles, they don't bother me.

Re: Is this a hemangioma?

Yes. Looks like one to me. DS1 got it just at about 2 weeks old. It was on his forehead. You can see pics in my album. Started as a small red dot then got bigger. We took him to a pediatric derm. He was great and just basically kept an eye on it. It will grow. DS grew up until almost a year and stayed like that another year or two. Around 3 it started to go away on its own. Now at 6 years old it's pretty much gone. No longer raised and still a little red but flat. I didn't feel the need to ever have it removed. Just trained his hair to cover it. If I ask him where his raspberry is he'll tell you. His little brother doesn't have one but when we look at old pics he says that's how he knows it's his big brother bc of the raspberry. He also wishes he had one like his brother. lol.
Once in a while if I remember I look at it or his Ped will but it's nothing.
Oh, and the few times he has fallen on his head it does look worse bc of it but it's nothing.

Yes, both of my kids have/had them. DS had one on his leg that has almost completed faded and one on his head so I can't see if it's still there. DD has one on the back of her neck.

I think so. My dd got one when she was around 1 month old. At first I thought it was a bug bite or a bruise. Hers is at the top of her forehead just at the hair line. So luckily her hair has pretty much always covered it. She's 3 1/2 and it's still there but not noticeable at all.

Thanks all. Hoping it doesn't get much bigger and feel bad for her but hopefully when she grows more hair it won't be visible. She's losing some of her hair now too (heard that happens) hopefully it'll grow back soon!
