Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
DS has 2 hemangiomas (I am attaching a wikipedia pic to show what they are). They are not in awful places--one on his back and one that will be covered by hair when he grows enough hair--but the doctor said it would go away by a year, and now I am reading it could take up to age 9 or 10? Some rude people make comments like what's wrong with him (annoying pizza delivery man, etc. ). I hope it goes away before other kids tease him.

Re: Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
My DS has one on his foot. He wasn't born with it, but it showed up shortly after. It was definitely much more noticeable when he was an infant. He is 2 now, and it has faded a lot. You might not notice it at all if you didn't know it was there.
ETA - it was raised when he was younger, but now it isn't really raised at all - it just looks like a pink mark.

Re: Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
DS has three - none very big at all. One went away by a year, the other two are the same.
Because they are not on his face, I'm not concerned (they are on his back and behind his ear). If they were on his face, for cosmetic reasons only, I would see a pediatric derm if it wasn't gone or starting to get smaller by age 2.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. It's like having a birthmark. I have a HUGE one on my leg, no one ever made fun of me for it.

DD has one on her shoulder and as of 18 months, it still hasn't gone away. It seems to shrink as she gets older though. The Dr said that she will probably have it until she is 3 or 4.

Re: Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
My son has a small one along his hairline/on his upper forehead. It's pretty small, but it sticks out a bit...what's weird is that he didn't have it when he was born - it popped up when he was 3 or 4 weeks old! His ped told us that they usually go away by 4 or 5 years old & while his hair will cover it once it grows out, I'm hoping it does! A few people have asked what it is, but usually in a nice way & only if they're close to us. I just tell them it's a strawberry mark that will go away & they usually just go "oh" :)

My girlfriends daughter has one in the center of her back. She has even seen specialists for it. They said it will get smaller as the years go on...and by the age 10, it should all be gone!

Our DC has one and we love it, it is such a part of them When people ask DC says it's a Beauty Mark It has gotten smaller and we were told it will eventually fade to a smooth surface and to the color pink.

DD has one under her neck.
It has gotten so much smaller and lighter since she got it.
Her ped told us by 5 it should be gone.

Re: Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
ds has two... one on his leg and one in the "swipe zone" on his butt... because of the second ones location we have been seen several times by a dermatologist... he told us by 2 they will be almost gone and he highly recommended NOT removing them since the surgery is painful and not necessary unless it is on a place like the face... the one on his butt is not flat and almost completely gone... the one on his leg has faded and gone down...
as for comments... when he was about 6 months old a woman in the post office actually asked me if ds had a tatoo on his leg.. "yes i found a tattoo parlor that was actually willing to tattoo a 6 month old, and isnt it a great picture of... i am sorry it is really just a blob.."
people who ask about it i just say it is a birth mark....

hilarious.
DH has one on the top of his ear, and people are always asking, "what did he do to his ear?" I just say it's a temporary birthmark. I am so used to it, and just think it fits his personality, so if it never went away it wouldn't bother me, but on other hand I'm glad it will for his sake...in case kids do tease.

Re: Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
My DD has 3 of them, one showed up at 6 weeks (the largest one), 2 showed up 3 mths and 4 mths (these are tiny, pinpointish and never really grew).
The largest one is in a delicate place (diaper area....it upsets me the most as it is a challenge to make sure it doesnt get nicked, irritated, etc). Showed up as a bloody speck looking mark at 6 weeks old and kept growing for mths. It is about the size of a pea now...at 1 year old. Hasn't really grown in mths now, thank God, hoping it will start to go away soon as it's a PIA when changing DD. Also my DD has a habit of grabbing herself and I am soo afraid she will nick it and it will bleed...so I always have to diaper her quickly during changes.
The other 2 haven't grown since they popped up, one is on her neck and the other is on her chest. They literallly look like a speck/pinpoint red mark that is slightly bubbled.
I was going to ask this question as I am hoping the diaper one starts to go away soon...if not, eventually I would need to consult a surgeon b/c I am lucky so far it has not bled, etc.

they actually recommend not removing it from the diaper area (ds is literally right next to a no so clean site) because the removal process was actually to make tiny little holes with lasers... what they did for him when it did open up origionaly was we used duoderm patches to cover it so it wouldnt open up and had time to heal... my ped ws in such a tush to removed it but his derm said absolutely not....
also, anyone who is considering removal, a friend of ours just had one removed recently (as an adult) and said it was an extremely painful procedure and recovery... he only had it removed because it was causing issues with his vision

Re: Did your DC have a hemangioma? When did it go away?
My daughter had one on her stomach. She is an identical twin so when the girls were younger, and before we could tell them apart, it was a godsend....
The ped told us that it would be gone by the time she was 10 or so...
It was pretty much gone by the time she was 18 months or so...
