Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I think I would agree to it if they were only planning to take him in the kiddie pool. At most pools you can't go in the big pool if you have a swim diaper on anyway so if he is not potty trained then he wouldn't be allowed in the big pool.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I would not let my child be near water at any age without me until he was maybe 6 - and then he went to a pool with my sister in law, brother in law, and cousins so there was a lot of supervision. And he was already a good swimmer.

Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
This entirely depends on your circumstances with your parents.
My parents have been taking my kids to the beach since 2 and I trust them completely.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I would absolutely let my 2 year old DD's grandparents take her to the pool. Even my in laws who are old and decrepit. It's not hard to take care of a 2 year old in water. I was a swim instructor and lifeguard growing up, so I am extremely comfortable in the water. My DD does not wear a tube or a bubble because it's my personal preference to have her learn her boundaries in water from the start. My DH and other family members have taken DD into the water. They have no formal swim experience and I find they are more careful with her than I am. I will let her dunk and try to get her to reach for the wall. Other family members who aren't as comfortable seem to hold onto her more tightly.

No. never.
My mother use to drop me off with my grandmother at the pool when I was at least 6 and knew how to swim.

I don't think my mom or my IL's could handle it. I would worry too much. Not worth the risk.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I love my parents and I trust them to watch my Twins every day while DH and I work but my Mom knows that I'm not ok with them taking them to the beach so a pool would be 100% out of the question for me. I'm a first time mom too and call it over protective if you wish but my gut say "Nope". My parents are amazing but my mom doesn't swim and my dad has had both hips replaced, a knee replacement and had a metal rod put in his back. He walks and gets around fine but certainly can't run after my girls. My mom can but she is out numbered 2 to 1.

Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I would let them. If I let them watch my child in the park or going to the mall or eating at their house, than I trust them. I know they wouldn't let anything happen to their Grandchild.
BUT, I will say, it would HAVE to be both of them, not just one of them alone.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
For me given my parents and in laws' age, activity level and awareness, the answer would be no way! And the way you describe your parents, I'd have to say no.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
My parents take DD in our pool all the time, but me or DH are always around. Maybe not in the pool, but somewhere in the yard or just inside in the kitchen. Plus DD is not allowed up on the pool deck without her puddle jumper on at all times. So I feel safer with her in that vest regardless of who is watching her.
A public pool, without me there, I'm not sure but I think I'd be ok with it as long as they were 100% clear that she had to have her puddle jumper on at ALL times and was to never be in the pool without one of them in with her.
My parents are very active and "with it"

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I let my parents take my kids to the pool without me. I had my kids in swim lessons at age 6 months. Also, my mom was a life guard when she was younger. If my parents were not so good around water, maybe I would have a different view.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I would 100% allow it, but my mom is in her 50s and can run fast! I let her take them in the car, etc. she is my mom and I have zero concerns. If my parents were elderly, I would probably would say no.

Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
my parents live 2 hours away and have an in ground pool in their yard. Last summer when DS was 4, they watched him for 4 days while DH and i went to Charleston for our 10th anniversary. they were swimming pretty much every day and i wasn't worried. BUT they are young- like 61, and very active and healthy... AND DS has been taking swim lessons since he was a little over 2, so he's comfortable in the water. they're watching him for a weekend this summer, too while DH and i go to a wedding... BUT i think it totally depends on your situation- how well your parents can get around and keep up with things... and how comfortable your child is in the water.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
With my parents, yes! A 2 to 1 ratio. Life jacket on at all times. My parents are super attentive and cautious
Dh's parents - no. Fil is sedentary so zero helpfulness. Mil would probably be fine but it would cause me too much stress. No thanks!
