Is maple syrup safe for a baby under 1?
I was about to put some on my little ones pancakes then stopped. Should it be avoided for babies?im thinking it might have the same effects as honey. I'm reading conflicting info online so I'm wondering what other mommies have done. Thanks!

Is maple syrup safe for a baby under 1?
I was told no honey/no syrup until after 1. Everything else is fair game

I think the maple syrup you buy in the supermarket- like Mrs Buttersworth, Aunt Jemimma, etc is all artificial and just flavored, so I don't think it applies to those
Maybe real maple syrup

We only avoided honey because we use raw honey and there is a slight risk of botulism...we use real maple syrup and my girls had it before a year.

I didn't give it because I didn't feel there was any reason for her to have it at that age. We dipped pancakes and waffles in applesauce.

I didn't give syrup at all until he figured out what he was missing. I felt like it was unnecessary sugar for him to have. I also don't by the Aunt Jemima, etc. stuff either - I buy real maple syrup. I get Costco's organic brand and it's really good and a bigger jug for less money!

My pediatrician okay end peanut butter and honey before age 1. I'm sure pure maple syrup should be ok then!

I'm pretty sure maple syrup is made from boiling maple sap. Botulism spores don't survive long periods of boiling. I've heard it's perfectly safe for babies under 1. Unlike honey, where botulism is the main concern for feeding it to infants.
Eta: I've been feeding real maple syrup to my baby.

Curious, why can't they have real?
I would say the opposite, a 1yo shouldn't have all that fake sugar, but why not a bit of real?

Syrup is safe--there is no bacteria that you need to worry about although it is recommended that babies under the age of one are not fed sweeteners including maple syrup- the concern is adding sugar to the diet.
