Fever in 6 year old

At what temp do you keep your kid home from school if they have a slight fever and no other symptoms?
Our pedi considers 100.4 a fever. My son had 100.6 overnight... He is home now. It went down on its own by the time he woke up this morning. This happens to him every few months. Dr said it is probably viral...

I keep my kids home with any fever over 100. I don't know if it's the start of something and I don't want them to infect everyone else plus the school nurse would call to pick them up with a fever.

Fever in 6 year old

I keep him home with any fever. I know I don't feel well with a fever, so how could I expect him to sit there and concentrate too?

Eh, if it's viral it's contagious so you don't want him spreading it either.
I say anything over 99.6 (1 degree above 'normal') would cause me pause and I'd probably keep her home.

Fever in 6 year old

Depends on how she's acting. Temp is secondary to that.
Fever by itself with NO OTHER symptom? It's rare for me to hold her back.

If she's acting totally fine 101 is my limiter, I'll keep her home over that (and nothing's reducing it)
If she's acting lethargic any fever at any level, she stays home (but rarely have this happen)

I just dose her with Tylenol and send her to school.

AJ & I don't get 'sick'. We (on rare occasions) get colds but we don't really get sick and by the time we are sick we are way sick. We are both rarely contagious. This comes from our individual doctors. She followed my traits with this. Pediatrician says we aren't alone. A lot of kids are like her. Some get colds with fevers, others minor sinus irritation or minor infections that resolve themselves with small fevers. They aren't contagious and totally fine at school.

Per my doctor nothing under 102.3 is worth brining her and even that ONLY if she's had it for more than 48hrs, because we resolve it on our own. That is of course with no other underlying conditions and speaking as if the fever was the ONLY symptom.

Again that's only because we took her to the doc every time in the beginning and our doc has known AJ since 1yrs old (when we got to Texas). She has seen her sick with raging double ear infections and not have a fever at all. She's seen us both sit happy as clams with slight fevers but only a sniffle while pinging back with H1N1. She's seen her lethargic with no fever and lethargic with a fever and nothing but a cold. So she knows my kid's ups and downs fairly well. I trust her with that.

AJ has missed only one day of school in 3yrs. Hope not to jinx that. But has plenty of low grade annoying fevers.

(ETA: Must have been something in the bottles! LOL)

My son has been known to be running around and playing with a 102.... Strange... It is now hit or miss... I usually keep him home with 100 and over. He runs a little higher then 98.6 so it can be hard to tell what is going on some days...

I had been doing that until I realized he sometimes runs 99-99.6 as his "normal" temp....

I keep him home if he tells me has a sore throat or other symptom and is running that temp. Now it is 100 with no symptoms..

What do you mean you are both rarely contagious? I don't get that.

If there are no other symptoms, I keep him home over a 100.4. I don't want to risk it.

When we are sick or have fevers (we see a doc) it's rarely contagious. Meaning we don't get viral stuff. Just average boring bacteria. Meh. Nothing to worry about.

We always see a doc if we are lethargic. She and I are A symptomatic. I take that stuff seriously. We can be super sick and not feel a thing. So if and when we get sick feeling I try to force a doc to see her.

#1 We don't get sick often
#2 When we do it's rarely with a fever
#3 When it's a fever it's rarely a contagious source

Make sense?

ETA: we cough hard enough we get 100.4. A bad allergy attack and we can be at 100. No way I could keep her home every time she hit 100. If she's acting fine and Tylenol works, then she goes to school.

If she's home, no Tylenol, I let her cook. Fevers are natural ways of killing off something. I think suppressing them is not always the best thing to do. The nurse at school won't even test her unless she
A) says she feels sick
B) feels so hot that someone notices it
C) looks flush
D) acts lethargic

(all things I would have kept her home for anyway)
