newborn has...2 butts? not really, but kind of

DS was born almost 2 weeks ago, and I noticed something when I was wiping his butt the other day...he has something that looks like a butt except its higher up toward his lower back.

When we went to the doctor's for a visit I noticed she was looking at "butt 2" and I asked her about it. He said "its normal unless it dimples" and said it was from the tailbone, etc...

So what is it? Have you all noticed it?
It does look like a butt with a crevice, etc...because poop does get stuck in there!

Is it a sacral dimple? Dd has a rather deep one but it's genetic and it's closed so she never had any issues.

I think you are referring to a sacral dimple. My DS has one. You can show it to your doctor if you are concerned, I showed our ped when DS was a baby and it was closed so he was not concerned.

Congrats on your new baby! My DDs both have a small indentation. Does your first not have it? I think the Dr just has to check that area in newborns to make sure it's closed.

Thanks for the replies everyone, yes it sounds like the sacral dimple.
The doctor saw it and didn't say anything so its probably nothing.

But it does look like another butt

Dd had something like that. Poor thing had no meat on her at 4 pounds bc she was early and growth restricted so this little dimple on her back was really the only butt she had lol. She's 14 months now and I can't see anything there anymore.

Normal. No longer noticeable for DD who is 3. I don't think it was noticeable after a few months
