What kind of thermometer do you use for your newborn?
I have heard that the only really accurate way to take a newborns temp is rectally It just scares the cr@p out of me though (no pun intended)
I have a digital thermometer that is good for rectal use, underarm use and mouth use...
I am assuming I'd have to use it rectally?
Has anyone used other thermometers for a newborn (temporal or the ear one?)
Has anyone done it in the armpit?

i think i have the same one you do... but it is ture that rectally is the best method for a newborn.. its really not that bad i always keep a very small tube of KY around so it doesnt irritate when you insert it.. its over in literally 3-5 seconds. i tried the underarm and its not even close to accurate. and well the mouth is out for a baby. the temporal ones are good but i dont feel they are very accurate JMO. If you have the same one i do it only allows you to insert the rectal one just enough to get the temp you can do no harm.
ETA: this is still the only way i take my 14 month olds temp

Yeah I was surprised that whenever they do it at the Dr's office she doesn't make a peep. I would have thought she'd be freaking out! I know I would be!

I have the temporal one. It's good for a very general reading (like if it says 100.2 I would take rectally to check). We've checked ourselves using it and it is very accurate; DS is just hard to keep still long enough to use it.
