Lease and expecting a baby
DH and I are on different sides of the fence here. We rent a 4 bedroom house from a property management company. Currently, myself DH & DS live here. I am due the day our lease is up. We want to stay for one more year until DS starts middle school.
Background: We are amazing tenants. We always leave the place in better shape than when we came in. Always pay on time, etc. Property management is awful. They never fix anything when we put in a maintenance request, haven't picked up the owners mail in months, and generally just ignore us until we fix any problems on our own.
DH says that we should contact the property management company in April to see if we can re-up the lease early for the next year but not tell them that I'm pregnant. That way we have time to plan in case for some reason the owner doesn't want to lease anymore. (We just moved here and it is the owner's first time renting their house.)
I also think we should talk to them in April, but think we SHOULD tell them that I'm expecting. DS name is on the lease, so I would expect the new one to be as well.
DH is afraid that they will raise our rent or something crazy if they know that there is going to be a baby in the house.
Thoughts?

Are you just asking if you should tell them you're pregnant when you ask to renew the lease? Then no, there's no reason to tell them that. I also am not clear, though, on when your lease is actually up vs. April. I think they have to give you 60 days notice before your lease is up if you want to renew or move out.

Yup, I was wondering if we HAVE to tell them that there will be a baby in the house.
I'm due July 31st, the same day our lease is up. We would want a few months notice to book a moving company if they are not planning on re-upping, since DH has a bad back and I would be way too pregnant to actually move anything. So that's why we figured April would be a good time to ask if we could get the paperwork done early.

Re: Lease and expecting a baby
I wouldn't mention the pregnancy, especially if they aren't local. My landlord lives in the apartment above us so he obviously knows, though we'll be gone before she arrives anyway. But I doubt he would've raised the rent regardless. He raised it last year, after we lived there already for 3 years, but I think that was to be expected.

Re: Lease and expecting a baby
if it is just to a management company i wouldn't give personal information. All they need to know is that you are leasing again. If they came back and say they want the house back then I would ask if you could have a few month extension since you are pregnant and need to look for something else.
