If your child had the flu? Update! This is a crazy virus!
What were their symptoms? Did they vomit?
When did you decide to bring them to the dr to be tested?
I picked up DS from school yesterday and he looked awful! He threw up within 5 minutes
Then threw up off and on night last night.
Today he says his face hurts and mouth and he has a fever. He also has a cough nothing crazy though. No runny nose.
Im sure its just a stomach bug but typically the next day my kids are fever free.
Update: Day 5 of fever Tested negative for flu and strep
Coughing, congested now. No energy, no appetite He has a fine rash on his arms, hands legs and cheeks It gets worse and better throughout the day The poor kid is miserable!

If your child had the flu?
She was 1, but she woke up in the middle of the night with 103 fever and she threw up, she didnt throw up again until we were giving her medicine after the drs visit. Meds didnt bring it down at all so i called the dr and they did a swab and it was positive for the flu.
Once she started theraflu she was fine. But you have a time limit to start it.

If your child had the flu?
My kids never threw up with the flu but they had 103 + fevers that would not respond to meds. We took them to the dr and they did a nose swab which tested positive for the flu.

Re: If your child had the flu?
Generally the flu is a respiratory illness (true flu, influenza) and it doesn't cause vomiting You can of course, from meds, or even from the high fever etc. but it's not a general symptom of flu.
I would guess stomach virus in your case

Re: If your child had the flu?
The flu can cause stomach issues in kids. I would only wait 24 hours and then bring him to the dr.

If your child had the flu?
It can be common for kids to have symptoms that mimic the stomach virus and wind up with strep.

Sounds more stomach virus keep ds hydrated most important... My dd never threw up with the flu. She had a fever, cough, runny nose and congestion. I brought her in after like 1 day of non stop high fever that wouldnt break. Something didnt seem right but i never even thought it was the flu. Luckily it was a mild case.

DS threw up for 2 days and had a high fever, it turned out to be strep.

If your child had the flu?
Only flu she had she never vomited
She was very lethargic Didn't want to eat Didn't want to play Didn't want to talk Didn't walk tot keep her eyes open Like she didn't want to live She had high fever Cough, sniffle, blah
They called it allergies because the swab came back negative. TWICE. Found out they were false negatives later. She and I both had H1N1 so yeah. gotta love Mother's instinct of not letting this go.
anyway.. she got over it within a few days (about a week) but never once vomited through any of it. I did however limit her to clear fluids when she started the fever and humidifier to keep her throat clear. I always have this feeling that eating and drinking things that irate or build up in the back of the throat encourage vomit as well as heavy items in the stomach. So instead I stick with light, clear fluids for nutrition and hydration.
AJ had a cold once, Aunt gave her milk although I asked her not to. She coughed up phlegm and it has forever freaked her out and seriously can't get my kid to drink milk anyway. Grr

There was pink eye going around DD's daycare last week. She got a high fever, lots of congestion, and redish looking eyes. Doctor says it's a virus caused by pink eye and it's just something we would have to wait out. She was feverish starting Wednesday until yesterday. Finally today her temp went down and her congestion and eyes are better. Maybe your DC had something similar?

With roseola they don't get the rash until the fever breaks.
Dd has a weird virus now too. Started Sunday with vomiting, very mild fever, yesterday she still couldn't hold anything down in the morning. The rest of the day she just had little appetite and she'd try to eat but would only eat a bite or two of anything. She complained of a sore throat at times and other times that her cheek hurts. She has no energy and has napped a bunch both days. So far she's still barely eating today. I really hope she kicks it today! If and now my 1yo has a fever. It stinks.

My DS had the same exact symptoms. We took him to the doc and he ended up having a throat infection that needed antibiotics.
You should check the inside of her mouth for pockets of puss. My son had them behind the tonsils.

Re: If your child had the flu? Update! This is a crazy virus!
There is an outbreak of RSV on LI now. Your kid's symptoms aren't perfect... But both my sister's kids have it. They have a horrible fever with s lot of coughing & mucous. The mucous is resulting in her son throwing up for over a week. Nothing much to do (but it is super contagious).

Thanks for posting this - my DD had pink eye last weekend and then had a fever/congestion and reddish eyes this week. She only threw up twice - so I don't think it was what everyone else is talking about. I also thought it could be her teeth - but after reading this - it sounds similar.

Re: If your child had the flu? Update! This is a crazy virus!
Ummm DS started with pink eye, had pretty much all the symptoms of a cold, congested (lots of dry mucus), dry cough. Continued like this for a couple of days, then he started having a runny nose and continued with the cough but it wasn't a dry one anymore, u could hear the phlem whenever he'd cough, he also developed a fever, that's when I decided to take him to the doctor, the doctor checked him and said that he had a cold and noticed he also had an ear infection going on and that was the reason why he was having a fever. She put him in antibiotics, a few days later the runny nose went away, and he still has a little bit of a cough but now he has developed some type of rash in his chest, belly, and in his cheeks. We called the dr and she thinks he's having a allergic reaction to the amoxillin, she told us to stop using it, give him Benadryl to help the rash and bring him in on Monday. It's so weird though cause DS rarely gets sick and he's not allergic to anything
