Talk to me about Mirena
If you have it/had it, what do you like, not like? Any side effects or benefits to share? I recently heard from two people with completely opposite opinions from their experiences so I think I need to hear from a few more people before I commit to this. TIA!

Re: Talk to me about Mirena
I have had it only for about 6 months.
I had constant light spotting for about 6-8 weeks and then never got my period (or any bleeding) again. No cramps, and just some pms b!tchiness, but that's it.
I have had no negative side effects and I have not accidentally gotten pregnant yet (which would be the BIGGEST negative side effect of all) lol. I have been extremely happy with it and recommend it to anyone who is considering it.

Re: Talk to me about Mirena
i just got it 2 months ago. I've had constant spotting until this week and when i got AF it was light than normal. those are the only side effects for me.
still waiting to see if the spotting stops for good and if the AF get lighter (that was the biggest reason i went on it). but so far, so good.

Re: Talk to me about Mirena
Very similar experience. Constant spotting for about two months. Now nothing in between cycles. I still get a period, but it's light (long though - about a week). My ob said my period will likely stop eventually. No bloating, weight gain etc. like it way better than paragard which I had for 8 Months and that and make me bleed like a sieve lol.

This is what I heard about the paraguard. I considered it because it was hormone free and good for 10 yrs, but after hearing about how heavy the periods got I decided against it.

Re: Talk to me about Mirena
I've had it for a little over a year - still on the fence about it.
i spotted (heavy at times) for about 2 months at first. When it finally stopped, i continued to get a "period" (spotting really) every 20 days for about 5 months. then it started stretching out to every 30 days, but i would spot for about 10-14 days. I am ready to take it out because i feel like i'd rather be on the pill and have my period for 4 days and be done with it, rather than have spotting for almost 2 weeks! This spot-free stretch was 45 days, so maybe i've turned a corner...
I have my annual in December and if its not better by then, then i'm going to have them take it out.

Same here -- one of the threads you'll likely find is mine.
I went with Lo-Loestrin instead and I love it.

Yep. That's exactly what I'm doing once I'm done nursing. That thread scared me lol

Re: Talk to me about Mirena
I have had it since last December and love it. I am not a candidate for any other birth control other than the Depo-Provera shot due to high blood pressure in the past, so it seemed the best option. I did have random spotting in the beginning (about 6 months), but it has been great for the past 4-5 months. I am taking it out at my appointment in December because I might want to try for one more, but if we decide not to, I'll put it in again for sure. My doctor has it herself as well as several of the nurses in her office and I felt that it was the best option for me...there are negative side effects to every drug out there, but you just have to make informed decisions.

I'm was on LO Loestrin too and plan to go back after I'm done breastfeeding. It's great. No side effects other than lighter/shoter periods, less blemishes, and weight loss! It's my magic pill :) I'm definitely less bitchy on it too.

Weight loss and less bitchy. Oh can't wait until I'm done nursing to get on it lol

This sounds awesome, too bad my insurance sucks and won't cover it, ugh.

Re: Talk to me about Mirena
I have it and absolutely love it. Same as others with light spotting for about 2 months. Have had it for a year. My period was so heavy before and now I can just wear panty liner for about 2 days and done. I do get some spotting sometimes but really not a big deal. Highly recommend.

Talk to me about Mirena
I got it July to help with heavy periods. I had constant spotting for almost 3 weeks after. The next month, my period was a bit lighter, but longer. The following month, I had just some light spotting for a few days. This month so far - Nothing! I wasn't so sure at first, but now that I am hoping my period will stop altogether - I'm thrilled! I can't take the pill due to blood pressure issues, so this seemed to be a good option for me to try.
