Talk to me about the Mirena....
Once the bleeding stops from the miscarriage from last week, DH and I want to get the IUD until we are ready for a 3rd if we even decide for a 3rd. Does the Mirena hurt going in? Side effects? Does your DH feel the string?

Re: Talk to me about the Mirena....
Just some pinching going in.. But I got it in almost 2 months ago and have been bleeding ever since. I've had to wear a pad every day. I don't even know if I've had my period during those two months because of the every-day bleeding. Its really annoying. If it doesn't stop by January I'm getting it taken out.

Re: Talk to me about the Mirena....
i had it inserted during a d&c for retained placenta, so i was knocked out for it. i had no pain and no bleeding when i woke up. i don't get periods, but have spotted on rare occasions. i can't feel the strings, and dh doesn't either. however, at my last annual exam, the dr couldn't feel them either. he did a sono to make sure it was still in there, and it is, and in a good position. he said he didn't want to make me uncomfortable and go digging for the strings if he didn't have to. so, basically, the strings are lost somewhere inside me. lol

Re: Talk to me about the Mirena....
didn't hurt going in or coming out for me. I hated it! I gained weight with it in. Every month near my period my body acted pregnant to the point of getting morning sickness. I was moody, depressed, had acne. Also I had the worst cramps while on my period which I never had without it. It made me miserable! I found out many people had the same side effects as me. Just educate yourself on it before deciding. I wish I would have read about it before making the decision to get it. There is forums of people that hate it. Also a Facebook page against it.
Mirena is evil
But on the flip side some woman LOVE it and have no side effects so it just depends on your body. Also I know some insurances won't pay to have it removed unless its time to have it removed(5 year mark). So I know that some have a problem of getting it taken out if they hate it.
ETA: I bled for MONTHS when it was inserted and my DH couldn't feel the strings.

So sorry for your loss
I had Mirena after DS# 2. Did not feel a think when it was inserted or removed. LOVED it actually, periods were super light (3 days TOPS) and PMS was non existent.
Got PG the first attempt when it was removed.

Very similar stories! I happened to LOVE it! Didn't hurt going in or coming out. No periods at all on it. NO PMS or any other symptoms. No noticeable weight gain. I got pregnant just a few months after having it out (weren't trying the whole time).
The first month I had it in, I was unsure! I bled lightly for a month! I thought it would never end. But then it did and that was it for the next 4.5 years I had it in.

Pretty similar as well. I had mine for 3 years before I decided to have #3. I LOVED it! Yes, I did bleed for a few weeks, but then I got insanely light periods for years after. I figured bleeding for a few weeks was well worth the 3 years of not having heavy periods like I used to. I plan on getting it back in after this pregnancy.

Re: Talk to me about the Mirena....
I had it inserted in Oct 2010. It wasn’t fun going in. I had a C/S and not Vaginal birth.
I bled for months. On and off, heavier and lighter then it was 2 months of annoyingly light. Panty liners only but EVERY SINGLE DAY! Drove me CRAZY. Then April 2011.. DONE! Not a single period after that. So 6 months of uncomfortably annoying for the last 7months of freedom! SOOOO worth it.
He doesn’t feel it at all.
I figured I suffered 9m for the joy of my daughter 6m of annoying for basically 5 yrs of nearly worry free is not a bad trade off. I stuck it out. There was no way I was going back to take it out for at LEAST a year. I needed it to settle and my body to adjust and I know that takes time. I am too poor and too chicken sh!t to just go yank it back out after a few months. LOL I’m such a wuss! Plus the idea of losing the peace of mind I had to believe I was working towards held me on course.
Overall I am BEYOND thrilled I stayed the course.
