A Monday wedding??? I get that it's a "holiday" but not one that most people have off for. I would NEVER plan a wedding on a Monday, I think you're just asking for a ton of "no" RSVP's. My DH would faint if I told him we had to got to a Monday night wedding after working all day and then having to go back to work Tuesday morning. That's a crazy day for a wedding! Chat Icon

Maybe this is their reasoning

MONDAY Wedding?

Oh good grief, people will cause drama over anything. A Monday wedding is strange. I'd have declined. Labor Day or Memorial Day isn't the same as Columbus Day, most people have off for those. I don't have off on Columbus Day and neither does DH or almost anyone else I know.

I don't mean this couple in particular but I'm so sick of these inconsiderate couples and this "its MY DAY" mentality. I got an invitation once without a stamp on the rsvp envelope. The wedding was oos. This couple told DH (his friend) "do you know how expensive stamps are?!" Yes, asshat, we do. I'm glad I spend over a grand and took 2 days off from work to go to your crappy wedding and you couldn't go 49 cents for a stamp.

I actually saw one happening at Brooklyn Bridge park today. The couple was Asian too! We commented that it was out of the ordinary bit then remembered it was Columbus day.

I understand the vent. Workdays are hard. But, you can never please everyone. Personally I vent whenever I go to a Saturday night wedding because I feel like it takes over my entire weekend. I like Fridays and Sundays hahaha. I'm def the odd man out on that but id rather take off work then give up a Saturday! Lol

If you can only afford a "big" wedding on a weird ass day like a Monday or a weekday, the have a smaller wedding.

I have to agree with this.

I think if you have to do something like this to afford your venue, then you need to pick a less expensive venue.

However, I would never hold it against the couple or take it personally. (I don't think the OP is doing this; I am just speaking in general.) People make different choices and that's what makes life interesting.

Whether or not I would go would depend. I am a teacher so the day works for me, but I can't really take off the next day. Plus, my DH works Columbus Day. If it was someone I was close to, I would make every effort to go, even if I did not stay late.

I hate when people get married on "holiday" weekends (like 4th, memorial).

MONDAY Wedding?

I thought of this thread when I saw a bride, groom, and bridesmaid in the elevator of the hotel I'm staying in. But it looked like they got married early since it was 7:30.

MONDAY Wedding?

We had a blast, of course, but man oh man this was the most elaborate wedding! Bride had FIVE different gowns that I know of (I got there late). It was beautiful, sucked I missed the ceremony. I wish we had had more time with DH's family, most came out from Cali, some from Hong Kong (his aunt) and Canada (cousins). This is his fathers side and his father passed many MANY years ago, and I know how seeing this family means so much to him and connects him back to his dad. I wish more than anything he had more family here, my family embraces him like their own, but I know it will never be the same for him. Even DS all of 11 months old had an awesome time .... Until he fell asleep in my arms, lol. Just wish DH didn't need to be up at 4:30 and me up at 6:30.

Glad you had a great time.

Just an FYI, as a previous poster shared, weekday weddings is a Chinese cultural thing, especially if there are guests or family members in the restaurant business. In fact, if they work for a Chinese restaurant, many people work on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday's and can't take off. Their "weekend" days are usually Monday's and Tuesday's.

As for the multiple gowns, also traditional. Every wedding I've attended with Either the bride or groom I've attended, the bride has been in at least 3 dresses during the night. Many of the wedding studios have packages that include multiple gowns to change into for photos and throughout the night.

Glad you had a great time. I definitely think its not typical to have a Monday wedding, but I don't see why people are so offended and dramatic about it. Obviously for whatever reasons, it worked for the couple. Go if you can. If you can't, I'm sure they would understand.

Re: MONDAY Wedding?

Everyone's priorities are different for their own wedding -
Some MUST have 400 people
Some MUST have a certain venue
Some MUST have a Saturday night
Some MUST have a destination wedding
Some MUST have a spring/summer/fall whatever season
Some MUST have a particular band, photographer, gown
whatever their MUST is, they plan their budget around that -

I personally, would change the venue, or guest list or whatever to do it on a weekend evening ........but THAT, it MY "Must"

I wouldn't be happy about having to attend a weekday wedding - it's a complete PITA logistically with work, kids, schedules, homework, sports, babysitters etc etc ........but like anything else that's isn't about me, I'd suck it up and do it for my friend/family memeber

I'll be honest, DH (who is Chinese, that's the relation, they are his cousins), NEVER heard of a Monday wedding. If this was something he'd ever experienced, or thought was common, I wouldn't have even said a word. Changing gowns, that I know is common, I was just commenting because of the amount and beauty of the gowns.

All I know is that my EX married a Filipino woman on a Wednesday. So maybe it's more common than we think!

Re: MONDAY Wedding?

I can understand why some people would be inconvenienced for sure. I totally get it.

I don't think it would bother me so much - I would just plan ahead of time with work or whatever, if I was able to. But, then again, I really enjoy weddings. I always have. I know a lot of people find them to be a bother.

Actually you said they are Chinese. It is not uncommon for the Chinese to get married during a weekday. I grew up around Chinatown and would always see weddings during the weekday.

totally I live near Flushing and have always seen many week day weddings.

Listen I had a Saturday night wedding but honestly it's one of the most important days of someone's life if the people attending matter to them they will make it work if they don't stay your ass home lol

MONDAY Wedding?

I'm going to tell DH that he's crazy and that Monday weddings for Chinese, he kept saying how strange it was and he had never been to a weekday wedding! I will say, for the most part, his family is VERY "Americanized". They are from HK, so to start with, culturally, it's different than people from mainland China - even their language, lol, they all speak Canto (and I get made fun of when they try teaching me) versus Mandarin.

MONDAY Wedding?

I had a Sunday afternoon church wedding with a Sunday night reception. For the people who had off yesterday, having it on a Monday holiday is not any different than a Sunday night reception. For people who don't have off, it's an inconvenience.

I am a big believer in the idea that whoever really wants to be there, will be there. The bride and groom take a lot of things into consideration when they pick a date. If I can go, I do, if I can't, I decline and wish them well.
