My husband's costly mistake
So, the other night we had a little bit of a poopageddon with our newly-trained daughter. I caught my husband tossing the Clorox wipes into the bowl while cleaning up the bathroom.
Well... The clog finally caught up with us. It's taken 2 plumbers 3+ hours (and costing us about $1000) to have the main line snaked, the lines within the House snaked, and now the slop sink line snaked. Walls and toilet bowls have had to be removed. They showed me the wipes in the bucket. Was definitely that.
I am steaming mad.
And DH's reaction? He's pissed because he claims he 'only' flushed about 4 wipes down. Oh, and he's questioning the plumbers that HE called, and whom he's not here for on why it needed so many steps/so much money. We don't have f-ing water, your pregnant wife hasn't peed in 5 hours, what do you want me to do but go with who's here and what they are telling me!
Did I mention how mad I am?
Sorry, needed to vent.

We've had this issue, but like your husband, I do question why they are removing walls and toilet bowls.
We never had to have that done.
Why are they removing walls????

So the access to the house trap is squeezed In a corner of the basement, and the previous owners put the hot water tank on one side of it, and then build a "room" containing the tank, separating it from the rest of the basement. So they had to pull down a panel of the separating wall in order to get to the trap. It's completely legit - they showed it to me. Unless you were to remove the tank, there's no way of getting to that corner of the basement.
There ended up being 3 clogs:
1 in the house trap
1 in the pipes between the bowl and house trap (no other point of entry for the snake except through the pipes from the bowl, hence the removal of the bowl)
1 in the slop sink, as everything "came up" into that, and re-clogged in there

Ugh...that's awful. FYI..."flushable" wipes are not flushable either. We learned that the hard way, but maybe not as hard as your way. Sucks!

Yes, it was mostly also due to these, as he only threw like 4 Clorox ones in... My husband wants to sue the flush able wipes company!

I live in a condo so luckily we don't pay for mishaps in shared pipes but we too were throwing the flushable wipes down the toilet. Ever since we stopped doing that, we haven't had any backups. Amazing how they are a product on the market. The only safe thing is Scott!!! Expensive lesson to learn which totally sucks but you aren't the only one who I've heard this story come out of.

Your DH should have honestly known better. It's no one's fault but his. And even the flushable toilet wipes should NOT be flushed.

Now there's an idea... Not sue lol but if the ones you purchased state they are flushable and it caused that much damage I would call the number for customer service and explain you want to make a claim for the damage done due to flushing wipes that were marketed as flushable.
If they weren't flushable you would have never done that, right? Well, or your husband...
I'd raise hell. I don't buy "flushable" wipes - I use regular baby wipes for a variety of uses and throw them away with regular garbage but if I ever tried "flushable" and it cost me like that, you bet I would be on the phone with Johnson and Johnson or whoever.
