Medical Q - What is this? TMI for the squimish
My DD (2 1/2) - had a low fever on Friday and Saturday but then it went away by the end of the day Sunday. Now she has a bad cold - running nose, red and not a great appetite but she is still eating. I am thinking this is just a bad cold...but she is now on Monday night having some yellow discharge from one eye. I will call the ped in the morning - but do you have any idea what this could be? Do I have to cancel my plans for tomorrow or could this be part of a cold? Never had that happen to me for a cold.
TIA!

Re: Medical Q - What is this? TMI for the squimish
Ok so basically a few times my son had colds and was rather "mucus-filled" his nose would run, he would rub it, then rub his eye(s) and then it would clog the tear duct. So the ped told us to do warm compresses every hour or so with a soft gauze, never using the same side of the gauze twice and wiping from the inner eye, out.
Your ped may also want to give you drops and/or an ointment.
Still go and check it out obviously but I'm THINKING this is what it is, bc same thing happened to my son a couple of times. HTH!

I should add, you can start the warm compresses right away until you get to call the doc.
It certainly can't hurt, it's just warm water! See if it helps. For me, I saw a difference in him quite quick!

Could be part of the cold. Her sinuses might be clogged affecting his nose and eyes. It's happened to my DS before.

Honestly, those symptoms could really be for any illness... Could it be a cold? Sure -- Could also be more -- I would just call the ped in the AM and run in to get checked out. If its something more than a cold you can catch it early. Usually a cold doesnt come with a fever in my experience...

Could all be due to a bad virus. May not be the worst idea to call your ped & check it out. DH def thought he had pink eye & it was just a cold.

This. We were just at the ped last week for my 15 month old for same symptoms and it was a sinus infection.

Is it every once in awhile gunk? That could just be the mucus coming out of the eye too. If it's more constant and the eye seems irritated, then it may be pink eye, especially if it's yellow or green.

Re: Medical Q - What is this? TMI for the squimish
This is all really helpful - thank you!
I am going to use the compress and call the doc in the morning. I might have just waited to see how it progressed - but someone mentioned an ear infection and if it's not viral, maybe they can give me something.
I don't think it's pink eye - because her eye isn't irritated at all and we haven't gone anywhere in 4 days - and since it is so contagious - I would be surprised if it showed up 4 days after she had contact with someone who had it.
I really love LIF - it is such a great resource (even when you plan to see the doctor anyway).

It sounds like a cold. Discharge from the eye is when the sinuses are really backed up. Try saline rinses and a humidifier.
